Mainly Australian artists are featured in this collection as well as a great collection of aboriginal pieces. There are several works from the Masters as well in this gallery. As it is free, it is well worth a visit!

Provides a great overview of Australian art, with a floor devoted to aborigial art. Amusing fact: artists' names etched on the exterior inclide "Michael Angelo."

Great facilities and well-planned spaces in the Art Gallery. Easy to walk to from downtown via the Botanical gardens. Displays of modern, traditional and Native art were immpressive.

Spend your time in the nearby gardens unless the weather is bad for this was a major disappointment.

Very quiet, easy parking, lots of different types of exhibitions. Some exhibitions are free and are really good.

Turn off the beaten path at the Library, walk through the park and stop in to the NSW Art Museum. The collection is small but you can enjoy the interior architecture of the building because it is uncluttered. The Australian paintings are beautiful and downstairs the Aboriginal Fruit Bat Clothes Line is very cool! And it is FREE!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
