While in Sydney we stayed right across from Hyde Park which made it easy access to St. Mary's Cathedral. It's a beautiful walk through the park seeing so many colorful flowers and birds. The church makes everything look picture perfect. What a magnificent building. The interior is absolutely breathtaking and well worth walking through or just sit inside and look... More

We have viewed many cathedrals and this must rate highly with them all. Situated in the heart of Sydney it is easily accessed by public transport or indeed a casual walk from the nearest rail.

Great church that is well cared for and easy walking distance from downtown. Park is right next to it with great views of the church.

... to start the season of Advent. We walked in hurriedly, genuflected and quickly calmed ourselves in front pews almost just in time for mass. As we knelt and prayed, the feeling of overwhelming crept up, and just placed me again in such a vulnerable state. I felt small in space and time ... The choristers marched in singing with... More

Gorgeous church. We walked in mid-morning and were greeted by a very friendly volunteer who spend 20 minutes with us explaining the church and various items in it. We really enjoyed our conversation with her. We wish we would have visited the lower level, where several arch-bishops are interred, but it was not open at the time.

Beautiful cathedral especially when there is choir playing. Just unfortunate that some tourists treat holy places like these with little respect, taking pictures (some with selfie stick extended out) while the mass is ongoing.

The Cathedral is beautiful inside, with authentic pews and stained glass windows depicting a variety of scenes. Built in Gothic Revival architecture.

St Mary is a beautiful gothic style church next to Hyde Park (free entry). It is open to all religions, not just Catholic. You get there through an under ground tunnel from Hyde Park on the west side of the fountain. There are many statues/paintings inside & out to take pictures of. There is a bronze statue of pope John... More

We popped in to St Mary's church after a bus tour and it was a great way to finish off our day. The glass stained windows are amazing and it was good to see so many people of so many different nationalities inside the church.

Thank Chris L

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
