A neighborhood with a Greenwich Village vibe, Newtown is a great place to stray from tourist traffic and duck into funky clothing, books, homewares and tea shops housed in Victorian-style buildings. The plentiful cafes and restaurants along King Street have earned the roadway the nickname of 'Eat Street.'

This suburb and its shopping strip is famously eclectic. Home to all sorts of trendy, tattooed, pierced, crazy hair coloured and oddly dressed folk. It's friendly, there are tons of great restaurants, cafes and pubs and it's always busy. Definitely worth a visit.

If you're in Sydney and looking for a fun night life. You need to come here. This area is a local hangout. There are so many bars and restaurants. You can hop onto the underground train to Newtown. I would definitely recommended coming here

Edgy, cosmopolitan with a great range of low price to mid range eateries. Varied cuisine - Thai, Asian, Nepalese, Italian, Modern Australia and good pub grub. Parking sometimes an issue but the area is well served by public transport

We caught the train from Newtown whenever we wanted to go sightseeing during our stay in Australia this past Summer Season - however, it was the time we spent walking around this 'busy little downtown hub' that sticks in my mind the most. It was close to where we stayed and we loved the 'vibe' with its busy shops, galleries,... More

Newtown used to be or still is the hipster place to be. There still are some really good places to eat and drink, on the other hand it's now also chains. It's definitely worth a visit, either by bus or train

Newtown is a lovely suburb which has a bit of everything. Many pubs and restaurants, interesting shops and cafes. it is a young persons inner city haunt, which gives it a bit of a grunge flavour.

Miles and miles of vintage and antique stores as well as lots of cafes and small trendy shops. Use your opal card to hop on and off the buses when you spot a cluster of interesting shops.

Newtown certain is a hip and happening place. Great idea to start at one and and walk all the way down the other and then back again. Great variety of unusual items to be found and not to mention a vast array of food choices, from classic Italian at the Italian bowl, to Turkish Ice cream, and an authentic experience... More

If you're after glamour, Newtown isn't going to likely be your first choice. I love this place, it's full of incredible restaurants (from vegan to African, Asian and speciality). If you can't find a meal to suit you there then go home and cook. Used to be home to the Elizabeth Theatre, memories of this magnificent opera theatre (sadly) gone.... More
