Absolutely awe inspiring to walk down Macquarie Street, past the Opera House and into the Botanic Gardens. The views from Mrs. Macquarie's chair are outstanding. Some of the best views in the world. What more can I say?

We entered the Park from the Opera House and you are hit by the sudden lack of noise. The gardens are well cared for with many different plants and trees providing shade to sit beneath. The new Calyx centre holds various exhibitions and there is an entry fee. There are various paths to follow and several exits so you can... More

Our journey moved in the opposite way round as we moved along the foreshore walkway having visited the gardens. It was a tranquil walk with light sea breezes on our faces. Ambling along looking out into the bay watching the mirad of shipping going hither and thither around an across the harbour. There is plenty of seating en route meaning... More

Walked from hotel to quay via Hyde Park and Botanic Garden every day. Great city for walking. we hardly used the excellent public transportation. When we did need to ride it was easy and convenient.

Very interesting to know the facts about the construction of the Opera house and it's struggle. A unique experience of show.

An area I know and love very well is always able to surprise me! Yesterday signage indicated a "Resting Seal". Yes, to a Sydney dweller this was a first for me. Sure enough, just on the steps from the Harbour waters, Northern end of the Concourse around the Opera House a seal was sleeping on a lower step. Circular Quay... More

There is no better way to enjoy a city than a nice walk, and this walk from the Opera House to the Botanic Gardens is spectacular. I recommend that you continue your walk through the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens.

Easy access for all visitors to Sydney. Lovely to stroll around the Botanic Gardens visiting places like the Lotus Pond, Mrs Macquarie's Chair, the fern house etc. Lots of paths to wander which are suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. There is also a small train that runs through the garden at different times for those unable to walk too far... More

A casual stroll from the Opera House along the Harbourside past Lady Maquarie's Chair around to the Art Gallery and back through the Botanical Gardens to the Rocks area for lunch at one of the pubs is a good way to spend a morning. I do it often.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
