We saw so many wallabies and kangaroos on our visit one early evening. Easy walks around rocky hills took us up close and personal with kangaroos and wallabies. Our friends said they had seen dingoes there previously. The buildings and information boards tell important stories about the origins of Alice Springs; 150 years of history seems very recent here. An... More

We knew a little about the Telegraph Station but going there was an eye opener. Well presented, nicely maintained, lots of explanatory signage and there were a number of volunteer guides there, to explain its history and place in Australia's 'connection' to the world. A nice souvenir shop and cafe (great milk shakes). Close to Alice Springs and a must-see... More

We visited the station on an organised tour, We were shown round by a student who was ver knowledgeable and made it very interesting. Took us right back to the olden times, how remote and still is way to live.

Easy walk, 30 to 45 minutes, from Alice Springs tourist center. It takes you along the Todd river on a paved track. Make sure to check the temperature. When conditions are extreme even small walks outside of town can be dangerous. Usual advise is to take water, hat, sun screen, and a head net to keep the flies out. Chances... More

G'day armandocastro Thank you for the descriptive feedback! The Riverside Walk from town to the Telegraph Station is only 3km on the sealed path and certainly is quite enjoyable in cool weather. We all appreciate your feedback in regards to our shop, the precinct and our welcoming staff =) Happy and safe travels, Jenn More

This is where Alice Springs started. The displays are very interesting. The out buildings are full of history. The young lady who was our guide was very knowledgable. Make sure you leave enough time to see the whole thing. I would plan on at least an hour.

Just a few km's from Alice and well worth a visit. We took the guided tour ($32 for the family) with the very informative Georgia. Really interesting detail of an amazing pioneering effort to establish communications by wire through central Australia to Asia and London. Also a very well presented display on stolen generation children who came to live at... More

Attended as part of an off-train experience during a stop-over in Alice Springs. A very good guide explained the significance of the Telegraph Station to overall Australian history and when Australia was connected to the rest of the world by virtue of the telegraph service running from the south to north of the country. Original buildings and equipment are on... More

A trip to Alice Springs is not complete without a trip to the Telegraph Station where the first settlement was. It is hard to imagine how tough it was for the people who lived at, and maintained, the telegraph line all those years ago. The history is well described on the information boards. Take the time to stroll around and... More

We dropped in to have a quick look around but ended up staying a while. Loved reading about the history and having a go of Morse code ! We didn't know the station changed to an aboriginal children's home. A part of Australian history for tourists to learn about.
