Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am-9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday-9pm Wednesday all year round.

As Cairns has mud flats instead of sandy beaches, the lagoon is super important as it means you can swim! Unfortunately the area around the lagoon and the lagoon itself was packed with people. It is nice for a cool down but not so much...More

Lovely family area for all ages. Changerooms located near the pool and a beauty flat walk along the water front is great. Lots of fabulous shady trees that make the walkways just beautiful.

Loved taking the kids there! The lagoon is very child friendly though they don’t allow kids to get in with toys or even noodles for swimming

I loved it upon visiting today. Water so clear and looks clean. Restaurants over the road, life guards on duty, sandy beach & paved areas. Heaps of seats

Cairns foreshore mudflats aren't swimmable so this artificial beach was created at one end of the Esplanade. Great for kids of all ages, no admission fee, well done Cairns.
