We drove up not expecting much but wow. Great swimming hold at little crystal creek where we had an amazing picnic. The water was beautiful. The road however was shocking on the way down. You can't see around corners very well and the people driving up were speeding and causing us to veer very close to edge. Big crystal creek... More

When looking for a scenic view of natural water falls and swimming holes then Little Crystal Creek is your place. An hour out of Townsville and a windy 7 km mountain drive and you are there. There are BBQ facilities and good parking. A lovely relaxing day out.

From Townsville the drive will take you the best part of two hours but man what a drive. Once you leave the Bruce highway the road narrows and gets very windy, however you start at standard Aussie bush and climb up into tropical rain forest that completely closes in over the road. The atmosphere is amazing, the bird song, wind... More

Lake Paluma is one attractive lake surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest. If you are lucky you may see a platypus, peregrine falcon or eastern water dragon. It is a wonderful place for camping, but due to its popularity, there are a limited number of camp sites available and you must pre-book a permit. It is well worth it though!

At the moment, there isn't much water in the lake, but the rainforest and nearby creeks are great . Very picturesque, cooler than surrounding areas, and the camping is stress free. Where else can you have a fire (in the fire pits) in March around Townsville?

This is a really good place to visit if you are in Townsville. Very enjoyable if you go with freinds. Dont forget to pack the picnic lunch as there are not many cafes or restaurants there. The freshwater creek and lake are lovely. Its not dangerous and is quite safe to swim.

Just on 100km drive from Townsville with several stops on the way, like Crystal Creek and Paluma. The dam has day areas and camp sites, camp sites need to be booked online with Townsville City council. Our site 25, cost $20 for the night and was plenty of room for our campervan, with enough distance for us to light a... More

We had a lovely few days camping at Lake Paluma earlier in the year. It's a quiet little spot with just enough amenities to be comfortable (toilet and bbq's) but it's basic enough to still be camping! This would be a great spot to bring a kyak or canoe and paddle around the waterhole.

Great for the views, sliding a kayak in, for camping, a picnic. We must go back there again, it's been awhile.
