I absolutely loved my experience at the Unique Opal Mine in Adelaide. I had only intended to see the mine downstairs and maybe buy an unpolished stone, but Elijah Ponte, one of the jewelers there, was so engaging and knowledgeable, that my interest was immediately piqued. He really took his time with us, and I ended up buying a gorgeous opal ring that is absolutely stunning. Now I wish I had bought earrings, too!

The knowledge and service of Tim and Adrian is impeccable. They took a lot of time for my daughter who had a lot of questions, she could even try some of the working tools. We bought a crucifix for my daughter‘s 1st communion that will take place after our return to Switzerland 🇨🇭
When going downstairs, you get a feeling of how the miners are working, there are real displays and a very informative and educative video to watch. We highly recommend to pop in!

This is a fabulous little shop located on the edge of the Mall. It is crammed packed with beautiful stones and interesting pieces. The staff were patient and helpful as we selected a stone. Not nearly as expensive as I was expecting.

This is the second time I have shopped here. A year ago I bought a beautiful black opal pendant and this time a pair of blue opal earrings. The all male staff are very friendly and knowledgable. The assortment of opal jewellery looks a better quality than at other shops. Opals are not cheap so don't expect cheap jewellery.
Down some stairs in the basement there is some information and free exhibits on how opals are mined and a TV screen showing miners at work etc so it's worth a look if you are a tourist or don't know a lot about opals.

While at Rundle Mall, I visited this shop and had a good browse, the man with whom I spoke was very knowledgable and helpful. Although I was only browsing I was very impressed with the variety of opals, and if I had enough money I would have bought an item.

This place is an absolute must-see in Rundle Mall, Adelaide. It absolutely amazed us and we spent quite a bit of time in the underground part just absorbing it all, and watching the video that was playing about Coober Pedy & Lightning Ridge. Loved the opals and bought one of their necklaces.

I was lucky to find this shop while traveling in Australia and had my engagement ring made by Tim and Steve in January 2017. They helped me choose an opal which was such a fun process, and the ring was ready to pick up a few days later! The opal is absolutely stunning and the setting is perfect. This shop is always so friendly and welcoming, and has really high quality standards.
I just recently had my fiance's wedding band made by them even though I was still in the States. It came out exactly as I imagined and the turn around was really quick again. It is the perfect compliment to my engagement ring. Thank you so much Tim and Steve! I will cherish these pieces forever!

Some beautiful stones. Only $60,000 to $115,000. Really? Much higher prices than anywhere else and they were snotty about it as well.

Thank you for your review... are you sure you have the right store? Our store has a huge range of opal from $15 to $300,000. I am sure you have the wrong store as our staff are never snotty and our prices are guaranteed as we are an opal wholesaler.
We cut all our stone and make the jewellery onsite our prices can not be laughable.

Unique Opal Mine caught my attention straight away on my trip to Adelaide. Walking out of the Haigh's chocolate shop across the mall, I looked at Unique Opal Mine and had to enter. Being a geologist, I am always fascinated with gemstones, seeing what experienced cutters and jewellers can do with the minerals that I tend to see on a semi-regular basis. The opals here are incredible and some of the highest quality that I have ever seen.
The great thing about this store is that not all of the opals are cut and set. Many of the display pieces in the windows are opalized fossils, opalized veins in rocks, and more, letting the customer see the gem in a pre-cut rock right next to a finished product. Even better, rough-cut or off-cut pieces of opal are also for sale in big drawers near the entrance of the store. I had a great time just picking my way through them for some nice specimens, getting one that is about the size of gravel with a really nice play of colour for free with my purchase of some stunning earrings (mined from Mintabie). The uploaded photo does not do them justice, the play of colours includes blue, purple, green, yellow, orange, and red, covering the entire surface of the stone.
Steve and his staff are incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly. If you are looking to get an opal in South Australia, whether it is a piece of jewellery or an off-cut piece for a few bucks, this is the place to go. My pictures do not do the pieces justice!

Thank you for such a detailed review. Your earrings are in the top 2% of the best white opal I have ever seen in my 20 years of being an opal cutter / jeweller.
I am happy they have gone to such a passionate person.

By far the highest quality opal in Australia maybe the world. You will find some of the rarest opals there. A collector's paradise.
