Lighthouses were placed on prominent wild areas for a reason! You can feel the elements, even on a relatively calm day when you scoot between buildings at Cape Borda Lighthouse Station. Imagining the pioneering Lighthouse Keepers and their families becomes your focus when you read the accounts and see the photos while there. Stories of shipwrecks, lives saved, children lost... A very remote coastal location rich with history. We highly recommend the lighthouse tour and cannon firing.

Wow Wow Wow, perched on the high cliffs at the North Western end of Kangaroo Island is this lighthouse "the only REAL working lighthouse" in South Australia, by this it means it throws 4 beams of light with the original lantern that rotates, not a "beacon" globe that just flashes. This lighthouse is covered on the Kangaroo Island pass and... More

If you have a good 4wd do take this route to see the lighthouse and do the cliff hike The lighthouse guard is a wonderful man who gives tour to you - he is a warm, friendly guy The cliff hike is short so I would recommend all to try as you will find the rock loos like dinosaurs fossils... More

We weren't able to stay long because it was getting late in the day and it's 50+ kms back to the KI Wilderness Retreat, including 30 kms of dirt and lots of kangaroos with little or no road-sense. However, it was easy to see that it's a very pretty part of the world with quite a lot to see and... More

Well worth a visit and to meet Mick who gave us an informative rundown on the area and the history of the "square lighthouse". This was the highlight of today's visit. Thanks Mick.

The light house is approximately 30 km of unsealed road off the main highway. They give light house tours Friday- Tuesday. They charge 3 AU dollars / person to hike the light house trail. A great view of the island cliffs can be had at Scott cove which is just before the light house.

Was lovely out at the light station. however because they were removing asbestos from the museum we were disappointed that we had traveled for miles and were still charged to enter.

The guide was very informative with a good sense of humour, we enjoyed the tour. The drive to the lighthouse wasn't too bad this time but on a previous occasion the road was terribly corrugated.

During our recent family holiday to Kangaroo Island we visited the Cape Borda Lighthouse which as Mick will tell you is the only REAL lighthouse on the island, unlike Cape De Could-be and Cape Wannabe. Mick is extremely passionate and conducts an informative tour about Cape Borda Lighthouse. If you can make sure you attend the 12:30pm tour for the... More
