Located in the Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, this special Plant House is filled with plants unique to the Sub-Antarctic area. As you enter, sound effects play and a harsh cold wind blows around, making you truly feel like you're in the Antarctic. The experience is short but very sweet, so unique and informative.

if you're into your plants this place is pretty interesting. Little kids would enjoy the interactive experience.

This is at the botanic gardens and I think must be unique in Australia if not the world. Small - just one room but definitely worth seeing - the only way I'll ever see what it is like on Macquarie Island.

Yes this is inside the Botanical Gardens, turn right at the cafe and its a 3 minute walk. Be prepared though, its freezing inside.

This can be done in 15 minutes - is very atmospheric with some very strange looking plants. Instead of a greenhouse, it's a cold-and-wet-house.

While on a bus tour with Gray's Bus tours we visited the Antarctic Plant House. On entry the freezing temperature lets you know that life in the arctic is not pleasant. We were surprised by the amazing array of plants - we didn't expect to see coloured leaves and flowers. They have put a lot of work into this display... More

Presumably a good interpretation of the sounds and flora of Antarctica - the wind chill definitely seemed accurate. Also dispels any mtyths that Antarctica is barren and snow covered with no vegetation

My only chance to see Antarctic plants and what a great display they have put together at the Botanical gardens.

Who knew there was such a variety of plants growing in Antarctica. Fascinating place also a nice place to escape the heat of the day.

We wandered into the Plant House at the suggestion of the guide at the entrance. Not sure what to expect we were fascinated by the display and all the information that went with it. being a warm day (or a hot day by Hobart standards) we were grateful for the respite from the heat provided by the Sub-Antarctic temperatures!
