Salamanca Arts Centre is a unique and vibrant community of artist studios, galleries, venues, retail outlets, arts organisations and public spaces. Home to several galleries, including the Long Gallery, the Sidespace Gallery, Kelly's Garden (an outdoor art installation space at the base of historic Kelly's Steps), the Top Gallery (showcasing works by emerging artists), the Studio Gallery (showcasing works by SAC Resident Artists) and the Lightbox (for small scale sculpture and installation). The Peacock Theatre is also located at Salamanca Arts Centre offering a wide array of performance, theatre, music, dance, film and interdisciplinary works. The Founders Room hosts intimate music and theatre events. There is also FREE live music every Friday evening (5:30pm - 7:30pm) with Rektango in the Salamanca Arts Centre Courtyard. On the ground floor there are over 20 retail stores showcasing the best of Tasmanian art and design. Many arts organisations call Salamanca Arts Centre home, including Terrapin Puppet Theatre, Festival of Voices, Tasmanian Theatre Company, Wide Angle Tasmania, the Tasmanian Writers Centre, the Australian Script Centre, Hype TV and Roar Film. I tried Kimchi, very garlicky, Kombacha, a probiotic drink, various chutneys and a couple of different types of honey. All locally produced. Also bought some Brazillian chocolate balls.yum! For locals , there is a great selection of veggies. A small farmers market, worth a visit.

If you love markets you have to visit. Lots of local crafts and plenty of local foods to taste. Really just a lovely way to spend Satuurday morning

Wit h a moving feast of local talent one can see and sense the beauty of Tasmania. Visiting the centre you can also meet some of the budding talent of Tasmania and talk about their creative juices and muses.

Get there early to experience this large Saturday market selling good, quality Tasmanian products,food and live music. The location alongside historic buildings is delightful - allow half a day to take it all in and enjoy all it has to offer.

Fantastic collection of fine arts and crafts that are really top end and handmade. Rare and unique woods such as sassafras made into jewel boxes are precision pieces and well worth the money. Art shops a plenty. One-off jewellery is common and other trinket shops...More

Wonderful place to roam around, stunning old buildings and alleyways filled with local artists wares. From woollens to timber furniture and storage items, art, jewellery pottery and glassware it's all there, and made in Tasmania. A real treat!!!

This is a great place to visit for some local shopping, sightseeing and dining. The wool shops are outstanding and the restaurants are especially good. it's a great way to spend an afternoon. You'll love all of the old buildings and architecture.

Yes, you can take photos for person use throughout Salamanca Arts Centre. However there may be some exhibitions where this is not allowed. If in doubt, please ask the gallery sitters for that particular exhibition.
