Hosier Lane
Top ways to experience Hosier Lane
The area
Neighbourhood: Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

    Ever-changing gallery of street art
Melbourne is renowned for its street art. Hosier Lane is best known, it's only a short walk from Flinders St Station. The street art in Hosier St is ever-changing, there's always something new to see.

    Nothing impressive
I understand the graffiti art changes here regularly and at the time of our visit there really was nothing worth walking there for. The graffiti was very, how do I say this, normal and not quite worth looking at . I thought the ones at Fitroy was nicer.

    Street art
Visited with my wife as part of a walking tour of the side streets of Melbourne. This forms part of the street art horseshoe and depicts street art at the rear of buildings. Some amazing paintings, but spoilt in part by the unnecessary tags, which is clear vandalism.

There is some cool graffiti here. There are also some homeless people living nearby. Just be aware of your surroundings.

I came in 2016 and remembered this lane as interesting and beautiful, full of a mix of detailed murals and graffiti. I wanted to show my boyfriend (who’s not from Aus) and was disappointed with the visit, it now looks like any other lane full of messy graffiti, was full of what seemed like a group of addicts and felt unsafe, I’m very disappointed with how this lane has changed and regret wasting my time to see it.

i am not sure about this lane. Was i in the right lane ? Because the grafitti looked overlapped each other and some looked like a mess. Some of them are still good. You can just come by when you pass by near this street.

it is all graffiti, no street art, will give zero star if one can. it is not even high quality graffiti. Don't let the picture fool you.

This is a small laneway full of ever changing graffiti art. Definitely worth a look but be aware this is very popular and usually full of tourists trying to get their pic of the artworks too.
