Melbourne Recital Centre comprises two of the finest acoustic spaces in the southern hemisphere, carefully crafted to present the best music the world has to offer.

Drawing fundamental influence from the traditional box shape of European concert halls, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall is lined with striking plywood panels of Australian plantation Hoop Pine timber, designed to resemble the back of a beautiful instrument and provide greater acoustic intimacy across the 1000-seat auditorium.

The superbly organic acoustics of the hall extend to the Salon, a uniquely intimate 150-seat space that can also act as a companion room to the hall. Comprising a series of diffusing timber panels with tessellated plywood faces tipped in and out to form a modulated wall and ceiling, Percy Grainger’s 1937 graphic score, Free Music No. 2 is inscribed across the surface to inspire players and audiences alike.

Swing by, say hello and book tickets to a show. Discover why Melbourne Recital Centre is the Best Place to Hear beautiful music.

I recently bought tickets online to see "Steve Gadd Band" for a one night concert at this stunning venue. The interior of the building is all timber and has a sculptured effect on the walls. All the seats are very comfortable and offer excellent viewing of the stage from all angles. There are single seats along the wall up in... More

Have now been a couple of times, great seats, good view and you always feel you are close to the performance, prices also reasonable for Melbourne. The Snowman concert was fantastic

If you're looking to attend a concert or recital in Melbourne, this is the place to go. Aside from the high calibre of performers they book to perform, the building has the most incredible acoustics. Both the Salon and Elizabeth Murdoch Hall provide a great experience. Anyone interested in architecture and acoustics will like the story of how this building... More

We had seat in Row C (about the 6th row) for the Soweto Gospel Choir concert. The acoustics of the venue were great for such a concert. The seat were very comfortable. My only criticism is that when someone must walk past you, you have no choice but to stand. There is simply not enough leg room to remain seated... More

It was the first time I had been to the Recital Centre. I went for the Soweto Gospel Choir which sounded brilliant in the acoustically brilliant centre. The Choir was lovely and I enjoyed the second half more than the first half. The Centre is clean and well designed and easy to enter and exit. Lots of stairs but also... More

Last night we attended a concert of guitar and cello by Karin Schaupp and Umberto Clerici. What an amazing collection of well chosen composers and pieces! Take a few moments to really look at the walls in the auditorium as it is in itself a work of art. The bar was small but never crowded so no need to book... More

My first time at this venue and I was really impressed. A beautiful interior with really comfy seats and fantastic acoustics. I was seeing a show with the Melbourne Jazz Festival and I wouldn't hesitate to come again either for the jazz festival or some other show.

The Melbourne Recital Centre (MRC) is a hidden gem in Melbourne's arts venues. It comprises of 2 performance spaces - Salon (intimate recital space) and Elizabeth Murdoch Hall (main performance space). Both spaces have sensational acoustics - the artists who perform here just rave about the intimacy, lighting and sound. Make sure you see a performance here if you are... More

The first time I attended. Long walk up stairs to get to theatre. Later saw there were escalators but didnt appear to be any sign in lobby and followed the crowd which went up the stairs. Theatre has gaudy colours which I found unpleasant. Seating was comfortable but seats closely spaced so had to stand up to let people past... More
