This cinema is a Melbourne Institution. Mainly arthouse or foreign language films are shown here. Went to see a movie called 'Dancer' and it was awesome. Super small theatre, which was lovely and intimate. Very busy too. Great place to go.

I have been coming to the Cinema Nova since 1970 when I was an undergraduate at the University of Melbourne. It just gets better and better. Right in the heart of Lygon Street with an array of eateries, predominantly Italian. Great movies, great eating and...More

Once there were cinemas which showed Hollywood movies. As Melbourne's population has grown so have the choices of what to do. Cinema Nova is a successful model for art house Cinemas. In other countries there are small art house cinemas which have a couple of...More

My overall rating is 'Excellent', because over the years I've come to view its quirks and problems (poor lighting in the Ladies toilets for example) as endearing rather than annoying. Plus there's a little bistro/coffee area up there far better than the pretentious and disappointing...More

When we stay in Melbourne, we love to go to the movies. Nova is our favourite because it is located in Carlton, the italian area of Melbourne. Good food and drinks in this area !

Although Nova used to be on of the great independent cinemas of melbourne, sadly they have fallen into the cliche world of the popular movie. In fact every cinema in melbourne is currently showing the same offerings (maybe excluding Astor and ACMI). What happened to...More

If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated
over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the
place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to
the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who
started their day with a local espresso. They are
gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this
Little Italy which has something for everyone.
