Melbourne’s iconic Princess Theatre is regarded by many as Melbourne’s most spectacular landmark. Dating back as far as 1854, the theatre was purchased by Marriner Theatres in 1986 and plans were immediately put in place for its total refurbishment to ensure its future viability as a live theatre venue. The Princess Theatre reopened in 1989 with the musical ‘Les Miserables’ followed by ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ which established a new record for the longest-running show ever staged in Victoria. Today, it continues to host some of the world’s most renowned theatre productions.

A really nice venue to see Book of Mormon. Absolutely amazing show. Not suitable for children due to language. If your not easily offended by religious themes it will keep you laughing the whole way through

If you have the slightest 'crack' in your religious faith. If you have a slightly 'challenged' sense of humour. You need to see this show. It's the best 'uplifting therapy' money can buy. I have never seen so much talent on one Australian stage. You will need a box of Kleenex and a change of underwear - for all the... More

Saw Book of Morman at the Princess Theatre. It was a really enjoyable experience just being there. The building is beautiful with ornate decorations and lovely chandeliers. Stage was easy to see despite us being near the rear of the theatre. The seats were a little uncomfortable and a tight squeeze. Glad I am not six feet tall! All in... More

Booked to see The Book of Mormon whilst I was holidaying in Australia, I'm so glad I did, the whole entire cast was talented! I've been to quite a few musicals, but this was absolutely the best casted one, every single actor was amazing, still got chills thinking about it. So funny, and probably the best one I've seen. The... More

We made a huge mistake and turned up to Book of Mormon one night late. Despite a full house, the helpful staff accommodated us anyway at no extra cost. They saved our entire trip to Melbourne. Thank you to the team at Princess Theatre.

Saw the Book of Mormon and the show was fantastic!!! But the Princess Theatre almost spoilt the whole experience. The seats are cramped and extremely small. I was completely squashed because a large person was sitting next to me. Poor vision in the stalls but the WORST was the 'guard' making all women waiting to use the bathroom queue and... More

Just saw the Book of Mormons which was excellent. I would recommend you take a cushion with you or carry a coat to sit on. The seat that I had was so low it didn't give a good view I needed to sit on my hand bag and jacket to get a good view. I did ask the usherette if... More

Went to see Book of Mormon at this theatre. Mormon is an absolute "must see" if your a Broadway fan. This was the fourth time I've seen it and it's still amazing. This is a beautifully restored old theatre with very comfortable seats. As always, the lines are long for the toilets and to get a drink. Large crowds hanging... More

What a beautiful theatre to see such a funny worldwide hit show. Located at the top of the city it's near lots of restaurants and very easy to get to. Parliament is your nearest train station.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
