Centre of Melbourne near Flinders Street Station. Has a lot to offer including restaurants (I loved the Chinese one upstairs - can't remember the name), free exhibition, free entertainment, bars, etc, etc.

Definitely a central meeting point. Info centre is here, across from Flinders Street Station, Princes Bridge, and the Yara River. A MUST see when in Melbourne!
