Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

What a fantastic room - so much character. We were met by a very friendly staff member who discussed the drinks and food menu with us, noting it was all Australian produce. Must have been the end of her shift because we didn't see her again, but the other staff were pretty good too. The cocktails were very nice and it was a pleasure to just sit there and enjoy.
The only thing that stopped me rating this place as excellent was their choice of music. Not only was the loud rap music a bit incongruous with the classic style of the bar, but I don't really find foul language in lyrics to be conducive to a relaxing drink with someone special. Believe me I am no prude, but there is a time and a place for a stream of expletives and this otherwise fabulous bar was not it.
We'll certainly give it another chance, and hope that their choice of music in future is a bit more appropriate to the great style of the venue.

Had a couple of rounds of very delicious cocktails here. You’d barely know the bar existed - just a door and a couple of flights of stairs up to a bar that is best described as ‘boutique’ (read: small but cozy!)
The staff are all fabulous - really knowledgeable and friendly, and they make a killer cocktail! Really enjoyed the negroni, the espresso martini and the autumn harvest. Would definitely visit again.

It's next to rice paper scissors if you're familiar with that. 3 floors, we tried to go to the top which looked the best but we're told it was closing so settled on the second floor by the log fire. The dandelion cocktail was not nice at all, however my cocktail a short cherry something was lovely.
Cool bar would recommend.

We were trying to find a bar in Melbourne to have a drink before our dinner booking. We tried 4 bars and they were all booked out!! We need a reservation to drink at a bar in Melbourne? Get out! So we trekked the streets and stumbled upon this place. There was only a red light above the door which intrigued us. Up the stairs we went to find this funky bar! We arrived just in time as within 10 minutes it was packed!

We absolutely loved this bar. The cocktail list was quite small, which my dyslexic hubby appreciated as he was able to actually go through all of them and pick the ones he thought he'd like. We had 4 different cocktails and they were all utterly delicious. Their take on the Charlie chaplain and the grasshopper were especially unique and yummy!!! The red room is AWESOME. Super cosy with the booths and fireplace. Just a really lovely, low key place to relax and have a bit of a smooch with a lover.

Small lane way bar, upstairs with super friendly staff serving an interesting array of beers including a smoky bacon type and all your usual favourite tipples. Superb playlist of classic 60s/70s songs. Enjoyable.

We stumbled upon this very interesting bar after dinner at Hochi Mama (a few doors away). Weirdly, the entrance is marked with a bicycle mounted against the wall. My cyclist husband proclaimed it a sign - we have to go in. (Inside not a bicycle in sight.) The bar is on different levels. Decor is unusual - arty, plush, with gas fires. We had cocktails on the green level. Again, the cocktails were very unusual. Will definitely go again.

Its hidden up 4 flights of stairs (continue up past the main bar) to an intimate and cosy arrangement of seated areas....
The waitress was hilarious and we developed a great rapport - loving the interpretive dance which accompanied the delivery of drinks... Cocktails and champagne the order of the night.
Only downside was toilets were down a couple of flights and it was warm and a little stifling (Id imagine lovely in winter)
would def come here again.

This place was a cool little find. The city of Melbourne begs to be explored and pretty often you will find a cool little joint like the New Golden Mountain.
Just a bar, a bar man and a room big enough to fit maybe 30 people. Some nice simple decor, low lighting and quality drinks. He made me a pretty tidy Moscow Mule, and had a great range of cocktails to choose from on the menu.
All in all, a great little cocktail bar that didn't take itself too seriously, and is awesome for a pause between exploring and shopping, or maybe while you are waiting for a table at a busy restaurant.
Pop your head in!

We popped into this great bar whilst waiting for our table to be ready at the popular Rice Paper Scissors restaurant next door. The atmosphere was great and our cocktails were delicious! We'd go there again.
