Perth's favourite playground, the Swan River is a stunning waterway which winds its way from the Darling Scarp to Fremantle. This natural attraction is popular location for Perth locals and visitors to enjoy a day out boating, fishing, skiing, paddling, swimming, picnicking or simply enjoying its vista.Rich in environmental and cultural values, the Swan River was named Derbal Yerrigan by the local Aboriginals who believe that the river was created by the rainbow serpent ‘Waugal’, a dreamtime spirit taking the form of a giant snake. It is believed that the Waugal created creeks, waterholes, lakes and valleys on its journey to the ocean.

Friends drove us from Scarborough to Fremante and back. They did not select the fastest way, but as much as possible alone the Swan River. We made a couple of stops to view the water activities during the day and to see the skyline of the city in the dark with full moon. It was a very pleasant drive.

A popular river for boats, jet skis and kayaks. Passing by walking or on trains crossing the river - families and singles watch the activites bringing a smile to faces galore. Peaceful to wander the banks of from Elizabeth quay along a sprawling bike/pedestrian path winding down the river.

Last year we did the cruise up the river to Sandalford which was excellent. This year we did a self drive around the Swan River wineries. The Information Centre at Guildford is great and friendly! Our pick of the best wineries apart from Sandalford? - Upper Ridge, Talijancich Wines and Houghton Winery. Avoid Edgecombe Brothers if you like fine wine.... More

Great day , very informative captain on way up river with a first tasting. Good lunch nice wines then gentle cruise back down river with open bar and entertainment from crew. We really enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone. Not cheap but looking back good value.

I swim in the Swan every week. Beautiful waters. You caan always find a smooth place to shelter if the wind makes things a bit choppy. The area in the City is large and impressive (view from Kings Park), but the best stretch starts opposite the University of Western Australia (open with shady areas, the grounds are worth a visit). You... More

The beautiful view of the Swan River from different aspects in Western Perth.. I captures these shots from the passenger side of a car and they don't do it justice... lots of boating activity and great waterways...
