Dont waste your time

I am an escape room veteran and have done many escape rooms across New Zealand and this was the first escape room to leave me genuinely frustrated and disappointed.

We did the Dark Knight and the rooms were sparsely decorated and overall very cheap looking. The puzzles were either stupidly easy or very confusing and frustrating as there were no real or easily understood clues. Most of the clues came via pre-recorded audio which was very quiet and muffled, making it very hard to understand.-not accessible for those hard of hearing

The staff were very unhelpful with clues and were overall very disinterested, barely engaging with us before or after the room, did not make us feel very welcome at all.

We left frustrated and demotivated, did not have a fun time. For the price you are paying you are getting a pretty subpar experience, especially when compared to other cheaper but far more engaging escape rooms.

Also a side point, there has been no new rooms for quite some time now, which i assume contributes to its less than stellar experience.

It was bleh... The staff were disinterested and unhelpful especially when asking for clues, but don't get me started on the room.

I was really looking forward to it as we've done hundreds of escape rooms and we were super excited to find a new place we could come but oh boy we're we let done. The room was needless to say poorly done and underwhelming, there was nothing engaging and we were bored the entire time, the story was confusing and the entire room was not very disability friendly, I'm hard of hearing and the room apparently relied on listening to poor quality audio recordings, 10 minutes into the room we'd already given up.

It could have been so much better if the rooms were actually decorated and they put more effort into it, nothing interesting about a empty room with wooden wallpaper. Do better next time you're giving us such poor quality for such a big price mark.

Great service, good fun

We had this booked for my son's birthday in late March - then Covid hit. The Break and Escape staff were very helpful and proactive in providing a code for a credit for the experience, and then re-booking once we were able. I had a problem initially with the website trying to re-book but the situation was sorted out for me promptly and cheerfully by the staff. The kids had a great time and were buzzing afterwards.

Worse Than Auckland's Other Escape Rooms
Nov. 2019
I've done three escape rooms in Auckland, and this one is by far the weakest.

Staff seemed disinterested and weren't helpful with clues when we got stuck; an important piece of equipment wasn't working and we spent about 15 minutes trying to solve it. When we eventually called staff on the walkie talkie, they didn't believe us and it took a while to persuade them to come and look at it. In other escape rooms, they'd have been looking on camera and would have noticed and helped straight away.

We did the Dark Knight, and the story was a bit weird - lots of pre-recorded story telling, but most of it was neither relevant or particularly interesting.

The puzzles that were working were pretty cool - lots of magnets and getting clues by putting things in places as opposed to codes and padlocks. The staff really bosted that the "fully mechanical" functions set them apart from other escape rooms, but I personally found other places to be just as good with the technical stuff, and enjoy opening a good padlock.

Price was about what we expected - just under $20 pp with a Grabone voucher, but you could get a similar deal for the one in town on Victoria St and have a lot more fun!

Let down by disinterested staff

Of the Escape Rooms I have done in Auckland this has been my only negative experience.
We did the Temple Escape Room as a group of 5. The difficulty of the room itself is fine - we did have to ask for clues several times.
The room did not seem well maintained, and had not been cleaned since the previous group as there was rubbish on the ground.
The two staff members on were very disinterested. Our first request for a clue was ignored, then when we got a response it was incorrect for where we were up to. After that the "clues" were not clues but instead just the direct solution - rather than a simple or vague hint to help us out.
Once we escaped the staff did not seem interested in talking to us, and did not offer to take our group photo.
A disappointing experience due to the staff, though I would still be happy to try another room here if more experienced staff were on.

Best escape room i have done in auckland, i have done all 4 rooms and will say that the best couple were, (as rated) 1-temple escape,2- evil hospital,3- dark knight, and vampire cemetery 40. Staff are very friendly and if you cant hear some of the props due to the aduio you can call the staff for transcripts to read. Dont understand these people giving bad feedback on vampire cemetery. Our team got out with 24 minutes to go we understood all the props voices. Some people may not be able to understand that well at all. Definitely would recommend to others.

Terrible. Save money and don’t go here.
Aug. 2019 • Friends
Absolutely terrible- you have timers that don’t work, doors that are meant to be locked but are actually open so, evidently, you go through and then some employee comes in and tells you that that door is meant to be locked and that you have to find the code to unlock it- WELL NO, THERE’S NO POINT IN WASTING TIME FINDING A CODE IF THE DOOR’S ALREADY OPEN!

Clues were missing... a true disaster- save money and your sanity and don’t go... you’ll thank me later.

This was great fun for our six family members and something we are going to do every birthday ... ideal to do before a dinner evening.

Vampire escape not great

We did the vampire cemetery escape room and finished with 20 mins to spare. The voice-overs were irrelevant to the clues and the rooms were very plain. Sorry to say but needs much more improvement before would recommend to anyone

Such a great time!

Have done a number of escape rooms through our NZ and this was definitely the best. We started easy with the Prisoners of the Dark Knight room to get a feel for how the game worked. The puzzles are extremely well thought out and very clever. We tried the Evil Hospital room as well and made it out with about 5 mins left, with 2 people - so if you’ve done escape rooms before this is a good challenge. The puzzles in this room required a lot more thinking to crack the code - but was heaps of fun (with a few frights thrown in for good measure). Staff were lovely and helpful and there’s parking on site which is a huge plus. Keen to come back and try out the remaining rooms.
