Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari make it easy to experience the astonishingly abundant wildlife of the beautiful Hauraki Gulf Marine Park. Our 4.5 hour marine eco-safari offers guaranteed Whale and Dolphin viewing year-round, departing direct from the Viaduct Harbour in down-town Auckland.

But we offer so much more than just Whale and Dolphin watching. The privilege of operating daily within this world-class conservation area has inspired us to establish New Zealand's only research-based marine mammal experience. This allows passengers the chance to encounter, understand and above-all help protect this incredible resource of marine life.

There's no need to travel far to have a truly world-class wildlife adventure. With over one third of all the world’s marine-mammal species seen within the area the amazing Hauraki Gulf Marine Park is one of the best places on the entire planet to see whales and dolphins, and it’s right on Auckland’s doorstep!

After a long but beautiful boat ride around the coastline and surrounding outlying islands of Auckland...at the moment that I had resigned myself to a no-show of these beautiful creatures...we were given a sighting of the tell tale gannets circling over a shawl of fish that had been rounded up by a pod of common nose dolphins. This was followed by... We got to meet tens of dolphins at several different spots around the harbour. They were fun playing around the boat coming to say hi. The boat goes right from downtown Auckland, great sightseeing, too.

The Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari is a great way to experience the ocean and its rare creatures. This safari lasted for about seven hours. During the first hour, many people got bored and thought we would never see these sea creatures. But through the second and third hour, we started to see swarms of dolphins - around 8 in... More

Very expensive but worth it: Guaranteed viewing .. or another trip. We saw so many our daughter got blasé about them (sadly no whales on our day) Very knowledgeable and friendly team on the boat Good boat. Stable and safe platform for viewing. Cafe on board (important for such a long 4.5 hr trip) Leaves from downtown Auckland, so its... More

Big aficionados of going on whale watching trips, having done them in Australia, across North America, and in the Caribbean. This excursion was right up there with the others even if we didn't see any dolphins or whales. The crew truly tried their best but just you can't control wild animals! The crew was very friendly and great hosts in... More

There is no guarantee of seeing any marine life. Go to a zoo if that's what you want! I had a fabulous day out, sunshine and company, I was on my own as my partner was working. The crew are knowledgable and eager to help you get the most out of your trip. I had an exchange of emails before... More

We have whale watched in various places and were keen to see what Auckland had to offer. We saw a Brydes whale and a lot of dolphins. The staff were responsible and kept a respectful distance from the whale so as not to crowd it. The commentary was informative and thought provoking- for the rest of the holiday and for... More

Don't miss this one. We went and found a few dolphins on the way out, which was good, but the best bit was finding a whale who seemed to be interested in the boat. I think we spent at least half an hour circling around a whale - and it circling around us, giving us a really good show. It... More
