Located very near to the bustling shopping area of Newmarket, this special example of colonial living is highly recommended to view. Each room has been beautifully maintained utilising the original furniture and trimmings of the household. The opportunity to wander through the house freely is pleasing and adds greatly to the enjoyment of reliving the house's history. The enthusiasm of... More

Highwic is a beautifully presented historical attraction with lovely grounds. The house has a warm presence and charm typical of this type of dwelling, and it has been cared for beautifully. Highwic is used for private functions from business affairs (Marques erected on the grounds), to Weddings, and I can vouch for that as my wife and I were married... More

On arrival we were not sure where to park. However, on driving full circle around the property note there is a side entrance and this leads to car parking facilities. The front entrance is too narrow for cars etc. As members of the U.K. National Trust we were granted reciprocal entry which is always a plus. On entering we were... More

Went here to see the house - it's in a sad and dreary state and rapidly becoming a stale relic from a distant past. Couldn't help thinking that while we went around that there surely could be a better use for such a stunning old house... How about making it a gallery?

We had visited Highwic before but came back with family visiting Auckland - for those who enjoy visiting historic sites a visit to Highwic is both enjoyable and educational. Staff shared knowledge but also knew when to step back and let you explore and enjoy.

We'd driven past this place a hundred times, we didn't know it was hidden behind the high hedge on Gillies Ave by the traffic lights at the motorway offramp southbound. Glad we know now though. Its a wonderful old Auckland mansion from yesteryear, which is full of the history & furniture of the original settlers who built the place. It... More

I hadn't been here for years and went with my daughter and grandchildren on Sunday. The two children were not keen but once they arrived were enchanted. The eleven year old went home and read the booklet that we bought from cover to cover. This is a really worthwhile vist.

Highwic is a historic site situated near Newmarket, a bustling and busy suburb and shopping area of central Auckland. It it easy to get to this tourist venue because there are many different bus routes that feed into Newmarket along with the train station there. There is also parking at this venue if you want to go by private vehicle.... More

We had 1 day in Auckland and we chose Highwic as 1 of 2 places to see. We were not disappointed. The structure was quite large and impressive, particularly for its time. The owners were well off and it showed in the furnishings and ballroom. He had a separate man's retreat on the property (to get away from his many... More
