Returning to Auckland after many years, as a home-grown native, I am stunned at how the city has transformed the old Viaduct Basin (the fishing harbour) into such a vibrant and wonderful place. Fringed on one side by the National Maritime Museum (very much worth a lengthy visit) and the former Tank Farm (where the old petroleum tanks were located),... More

Been there on the weekdays and in the weekends. This place attracts a lot of tourist taking their cruise or bus or ferry. Lots of family people around in the afternoon. Good places to eat for you. A little costly but we will find budget places around too. Great place to get a beer or two. Happy hours were there... More

The viaduct harbour is great to visit with amazing sea views and also the huge amount of restaurants which overlook the water. Far too many to choose from. There are no real retail shops here though which we did expect.

Both Queen Street and Viaduct Harbour were on our list of the first places to see when we arrived in "The City of Sails." Probably Viaduct Harbour is most significant because it represents Auckland as the city with the largest per capita boat ownership in the world. In addition to luxury hotels, there are a museum, yachts, lots of restaurants,... More

Viaduct Harbour is an interesting place to visit in Auckland. Some fantastic restaurants offering some great food. A visit to the Auckland fish market is also a must see at the Harbour. We ate at Dr Rudi's Brewing Co which is upstairs with balcony seating over looking the harbour and offers 31 different beers to choose from.

I really enjoyed strolling around the viaduct Harbour. There is so much to see. Wonderful boats and an abundance of eateries in all price ranges. Cross into Wynyard area and visit the fish market. Lots of fresh fish restaurants over the walking bridge

It's a beautiful area! Busy marina full of lovely yachts and cruisers. Lots of pathways and walkways to explore. The small footbridge raises to allow the boats access to marina. There loads of bars, restaurants and cafes to enjoy. There's even a full size racing yacht mounted on pillars standing tall and looking over the whole area! Apparently it's the... More
