A must do when in Auckland. Magnificent views back to Auckland City one way, North Shore, and the Hauraki Gulf. 30+ minute ferry trip from Auckland to Rangitoto. The best way to the top is to walk. Any reasonably fit person can climb to the summit in 45-60 minutes. Transport is available for those with walking difficulties. On the way... More

We really enjoyed our day on Rangitoto. The trek was tough in parts but definitely worth it(in my opinion) I would not recommend to anyone who does not like walking long distances or on uneven ground. And I would recommend camping over if you wanted to see more as 1 day is not enough.

I took a Fuller ferry and tour from the ferry terminal at Auckland. I took the tractor tour, which was dusty, but worthwhile. The views from the peak are impressive!

This is a 600 years old volcano, the experience is very nice. The ride to the island is short, and very comfortable. You have to bring everything with you. It's a great place for nature lovers and hikers. Great for vistas and pictures.

I hiked to the summit and it was an experience unlike anything else. I am not in very good shape, so the hike was challenging, but definitely worth it. On the way back down I saw the lava caves (a little more uneven hiking) and walked through some of the forest. It was a great day.

See Auckland from a completely different perspective. Hot in summer so take plenty of water, in winter the climb will warm you up nice n toasty. Track is easy navigable but you need good shoes, not flip flops.

We went on a beautifully sunny day, enjoyed the boat ride out there then walked around the island and up to the 'peak'. Super easy walk with good views of the gulf!

My wife and I hiked to the peak of Rangitoto in late March after jet skiing to the island from Maraetai Beach (We rented jet skis from Jet Ski Hire). The hike started gradual, but got more challenging closer to the peak. We are in good shape, but our calves got a workout. Well-marked path and safe trail. We were... More

A great experience, but hot, there is very little shade and no drinks available on island. My boys loved it, very fun and interesting.
