We went across in our friend's sailing boat and we had dolphins follow us for most of the way, it was incredible! They hung around the harbour and we went swimming with them. The island itself is beautiful and has lots of walks. We came...More

9am ferry departure from Auckland and back by 5pm so a full day activity. Ferry cost $75 with a further $10 if you want a guided walk. Volunteers travel from Auckland on ferry and there is the option of a short or long walk once...More

This island is a gem—such a beautiful place to hike and view native New Zealand birds and trees. The guided walk is nice because you will see birds you otherwise would have missed, but the pace is a little slow so be patient! If you...More

Visited with a friend on New Year's Day. We didn't see too many birds, but someone told me it's bc most of the birds are active during the day and become quieter as the ferry rolls in with all of the tourists. Visit in the...More

Another great place to take tourists/friends etc as it's beautiful when the weather is good. Please remember to wear suitable hiking gear, bring water & bug/sunblock spray and a camera. Good time to visit is in the spring when the penguins are hatching.

Growing up, we had a small holiday home on the Whangaparoa Peninsula, and often stopped in at Tiri to swim or clean fish on the way out or back from trips with my dad and brother in our little ‘tinny’ boat. Tiri then seemed rather...More

Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback Ed, and so great that you have seen the 'before and after'. Not many have had that privilege. The guide was correct, Fullers/360 Discovery don't give us any money however what they give us in 'kind' is fantastic....More

We opted for the guided walk and were treated to in-depth knowledge about trees/plants and birds. Our walk ended up being 3 hours instead of the usual 2 hours, probably due to questions we asked. Definitely recommend taking a rain jacket and comfortable walking shoes...More

This is a Wildlife sanctuary and visitors are checked on arrival for insect and other predators and rodents. Usually visitors get into a small boat from the arriving ferry and land on the wharf.More

Hi David thank you for your review. I think however that you are mixing up Tiritiri Matangi (an open sanctuary 20 minutes ferry ride from the end of Whangaparaoa Peninsular and 80 minutes from downtown Auckland) with Hauturu/Little Barrier. Tiritiri has a wharf that is...More

Make sure you take anti nausea pills at least half an hour before you get on the ferry as sometimes the journey is very rough.
