A rugged west coast beach with black sand and amazing views of the power of nature. Easy walking with caves and rock faces to explore... great for walking the dog. Surf beach for the experienced but good to get feet wet. Be prepared for blustery winds and very hot sand in summer. Lake Waimanu is a good walk across the... More

Caves you can explore, rockpools to climb over and a good amount of beach to run over. This has some lovely spots for wildlife and safe for kids to play.

Great place to go for walks along the coastline, or over to the lake. Nice little food truck there on weekends, with coffee, drinks, food, even pizza. Delicious food, very relaxt.

There are some cool caves on the south end of the beach to walk about in. Some surfers, some fishermen. Lovely views!

Incredible beach that you won't want to leave. The sand is so soft on your feet. The water comes up the beach in such a way that you can walk across ankle deep. The beach is clean and so fresh. Plenty to explore on either side of the beach. The mountains surrounding are gorgeous.

Along with Piha and Muriwai, Bethells Beach is definitely one of the spots to visit when traveling along Auckland's west coast. It is a fairly secluded beach, with only a few houses and baches in the area near the beach. A great beach to spend a day away from the crowds.

If you have time to visit only one beach in Auckland, go to Piha - but if you have time for two include Bethells. It is lovely and isolated and sparse of people, but worth it! We very much enjoyed the drive out to the parking area and strolling the beach, feeling like we were the last ones on earth.... More

We got fish and chips and sat on the beach watching the sunset. Huge beach with space for all activities. Amazing photos taken of the sunset, its a bit out of the way but one of the most incredible beaches ive been to.

Largest sand dune I've ever seen outside a desert. Great relatively short walk from the car park. Lake at the end. And then there's the beach. Grey sand, clearly there's a lot of iron in the bedrock.

Having read some of the reviews online about Bethells Beach, I put it on the must do list for my recent visit to Auckland. The bestie and I headed off in the car (easy car trip to the beach & short trip from Auckland city itself) to discover this beach. Driving through the countryside you do not expect to see... More
