Well worth the walk up the hill 800 steps. Would be slippery when wet. Spectacular drive in, many things to see grey beaches and camp sites

A bit off the beaten track but the road, although gravel, isn't too arduous. Parts of it are a little rough but take your time, especially past the free range horses and cows! Parking is near a farmhouse and then a steep climb up too...More

It is a magical place. Especially before sunrise :) Peaceful. 800 steps to get there. I won't say it's easy but it's worth it. The worst part of that trip is the horrible gravel road leading to the Cape. If your car isn't in a...More

Racing up at the end of the day before the sun set, we were delighted to catch the view from the lighthouse.

Don't let the gravel road put you off. I went out there on a motorbike with my wife on the back. It is well worth the visit. A fair few steps to the lighthouse, so make sure you get there in plenty of time to...More

It's a nice drive to the lighthouse (gravel road). If you're lucky you will see some seals... You can park your car near the farmhouse and walk/climb up the 800 steps up to the lighthouse. The steps are steep and sometimes uneven, but the view...More

Although the path is steep it is very doable because of the wooden steps. Unfit people will struggle but lots of rests will help the ascent. The panoramic views certainly make it all worthwhile. It might have been nice to have a ladder up to...More

The road to get to the lighthouse is a bit rough but the climb to the lighthouse is worth the effort. 800 steps to be prepared!

Absolutely worth the effort. The road was a little dodgy as there had been a lot of rain so it was slow going in some areas, was about 30 min in total from Te Araroa. There is tar seal road for about 5km then dirt....More

No tours that I'm aware of. It's not a place tourists visit often due to long drive - only 1% of all tourists drive the coast road from Opotiki to Te Araroa where road to lighthouse is. The single lane road in is narrow and... More

It would be a whole day out but there are other attractions along the way - including a very long wharf. There are a few eateries but they are fairly basic. There is a nice manuka honey place just beyond the little town... More
