Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

I went with a friend from Europe and she was amazed. It really does explain the history of the Maori in NZ and the fact that it is still a living Maori village makes this attraction all the more authentic and cultural- it does not...More

We had a Eye opening and upfront experience with the maori people. The very 1st impression from them is their warm hospitality and how family bonding they are. Super love to see how they love and embrace their own culture and so willingly to share...More

Lots of info was presented as we moved in small groups from station to station for info and demonstrations. However, it was extremely rushed. If they could have taken 3-5 minutes at each station it would have been much more enjoyable. Couldn't hear anything at...More

Hey Jacqueline, There were no infants on our particular tour. I don't have children myself, but I didn't feel that there was anything obvious on the tour that would be inappropriate for a 3 1/2 year old. If your child is... More

Best option is to stay a night or 2 in rotorua. You can fly up but probably cheaper to get a Mana or Intercity bus. They will pick you up from your accommodation in rotorua and drop you off after the performance.
