Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

Living locally we have been to all the local attractions and regularly take visitors to them. Tamaki experience is one of our favourites and it's set in an authentic way. The food is good and there is lots of it. It's a living museum of Maori culture. Fantastic

We had a terrific night at Tamaki Maori Village. Our bus driver, Dennis, was wonderful and kept us entertained. We were oicked up in Rotorua at the Visitors Centre and then went out to the village. The whole experience allowed you to develop a new perspective and understanding of the Maori culture. We attended various houses of learning and rotated... More

Was a bit scared paying $185 but wow, I'd definitely pay it again. Was picked up by a huge bus out front of Top 10, went along picked everyone up, then the bus driver picked our chief for the night, from start to finish was the best night ever. The amazing drive through the forest, the ceremony on to their... More

Enjoyable cultural evening for the whole family. The bus ride out and back was entertaining. The small groups at the huts were informative but a little rushed and would have loved to have seen more performance on stage - more singing, dancing, poi etc. Plenty of food but found the meat to be overcooked and tough. Very friendly and inviting... More

A must when you are in Rotorua. The bus driver made the journey to the event and back very amusing. The program in the Village was excellent.

I'm not still quite sure what to think about this show. It's an interesting combination of massive business for tourists and some really authentic moments. It's definitely not cheap and I'm not sure it worth the price, however the feeling that the money will (hopefully) help to keep the Maori cultural heritage alive was helpful. For someone like me it... More

Highly recommended! The bus rides there and back were filled with entertaining banter and good information, the actual tour itself was very polished, well-rehearsed and highly informative. The food was so good! I've had hangis before, and will admit, I am not overly fond of, but the hangi in this particular tour was exceptional. All the staff were friendly and... More

We had a really interesting and enjoyable evening!. We learnt many interesting things about Maori history and culture, and the food experience (the hangi!) was amazing. To top it off, our driver Wallace was incredibly informative, he made us more and more curious while we were driving to the village and he made sure we enjoyed every minute even of... More
