Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

This is one of the best things I have done in NZ to date! The price seems steep but I can tell you it is totally worth it! You are picked up from your accommodation and taken to the village in a forest on the...More

The atmosphere, experience, proud Maori culture, you won't be disappointed at all. This was an absolute highlight to my tour and I recommend everyone to go along. And if you're a man, lucky, you get to try and do the Haka!

This was our third visit, this time bringing visitors for the Lions Tour. We thought the food side of it had definitely improved, the hangi was delicious and plentiful. Some parts of the walk around seemed very staged and repetitive and also a bit rushed....More

Our family loved this experience. We visited early in our trip and gave us all a good insight into Maori culture. My young boys loved learning the Haka, and we all loved the singing and dancing ...

We visited the Tamaki Maori Village on a four day visit to Rotorua. I read the reviews before booking and whilst yes the bus drivers talk a lot on the bus there and back, their enthusiasm and energy goes towards engaging the group from the...More

We paid about £60 each for the cultural tour and Hangi dinner. That tour guide on the bus was obviously reading the information and used a monotonous tone when she wasn't trying to get us to participate by repeating Maori words. Not my cup of...More

Interesting tour, nice food. Really, really lovely people at the village. Our bus driver was a bit annoying so I could have done without that.

The evening starts with your bus pick up but to make the experience more of an immersion, the drivers refers to the bus as a waka (canoe) and there is chief of the canoe/tribe named on the way to the center. Visitors are met at...More

This is a fun evening activity where you learn about Maori culture. The performances are great and they involve the audience a ton. Even our bus driver on the way home made us sing songs, which was hysterical. And the food is plentiful and good,...More

Best option is to stay a night or 2 in rotorua. You can fly up but probably cheaper to get a Mana or Intercity bus. They will pick you up from your accommodation in rotorua and drop you off after the performance.

They actually pick you up on abus from central spots around town. They have an office in Rotorua with a big carpark I would imagine you could be picked up and dropped off there ???
