We are here in nz for 8 wks and were told to visit as it's a must. Our first observation was that nothing is really signposted. You know it's there but it doesn't say much about anything. As we were staying on the lakeside and had a car we drove around stopping of at things as and when you fancied.... More

Rotorua really does have a real gem here. We visited most says during our month long stay in Rotorua. At weekends the lakeside is buzzing with tourists and locals enjoying the many waterborne activities that are available. Beautiful black swans swim on the lake. Maybe you just want to sit and watch the speedboats, the floatplanes, the helicopters or pedalos,... More

We were lucky to have a campsite on the lake shore, for our motorhome. There was a lovely walk along the beach from it. We were surprised, that in spite of the high mineral content in the water, there were lots of swans on it. As with many geothermal areas we were able to dig in the sand to find... More

Enjoyed a one hour stroll along the lake. Good paths and board walks. Beautitul little beaches, swans, views ... went as far as Sulphur Bay where we saw lots of thermal activity

Lake Rotorua is located to the north of the city and was created from a volcano that last erupted 240,000 years ago and as a consequence the magma chamber underneath collapsed and left a depression known as the Rotorua Caldera. It is a particularly pleasant area and there were a lot of people enjoying the tranquillity of the lake on... More

Nice place to visit on a sunny day, never on a cloudy day...the sulphur stench can be a bit too strong. Take your packed lunch and sit by the many parks around the lake to enjoy a great time with family and friends. There are many things to do as well, like a weekend market, go fishing or simply feed... More

The lake has nice scenery, but nothing outstanding. The surrounding area is developed well for pedestrians and visitors who want to relax by the lake side.

We stayed next to the lake and there was always something to look at - the paragliders, the boat tours, the swans, birds and people sailing. Very relaxing.

We visited with our campervan and were able to park for lunch in peace and quiet without paying. We loved the fact that we could easily access the Museum and Kuirau park for free.
