It was a nice walk along the lakefront! The smell of sulphur makes the city unique! Went there in January and it was super hot. Dont forget your sunscreen!

Amazing Free walk around the Lake, with amazing geothermal activity. A Must do for all age. You can maybe rent a bike if walking 6-10km seem a little long. Do not hesitate to stray from the road and go as close to the lake as possible this is where it is the most beautiful

We stayed a bit out of Rotorua on the LHS of the lake. Great view in any weather and easy to walk or cycle around. Plenty of things to do on the lake also.

Skip lake Taupo and come here instead. What a gorgeous lake. Many layered and lots of hidden gems as you walk around it like hot springs and hot mud pools and black swans and pukeko. Absolutely lovely and peaceful. Also the lake is very close to the Government Gardens which is also a lovely attraction.

Sometimes booked by large groups of holidaymakers, arriving by coach, so you have to judge the best time to get on. Suggest you go early or late to avoid the large groups.

Lake Rotorua is stunning, with a huge and varied ecosystem which is supported by the geothermal activity of the area. I saw heaps of seabirds resting in the lake, as well as feeding Pukeko with their young and a beautiful backdrop of the islands. You can walk, cycle or jog around the lake, and the access is wheelchair and pram... More
