Te Puia spans 70 hectares within the historic Te Whakarewarewa Valley, on the edge of town. We are home to the world famous Pohutu geyser, to mud pools, hot springs, to silica formations to the Kiwi bird and the national schools of wood carving, weaving, stone and bone carving. We have shared these treasures with manuhiri (visitors) for 170 years and proudly continue that legacy today.

In Rotorua there are at least 4 places a tourist can see Maori history and dancing with a dinner option. It is really hard to say that this one is better in every respect than all of the rest, but the variety of experiences here will be hard to beat. They have a Kiwi House where you can observe a... The guide on the tour was very kind and very interesting. it was very fascinating about the geysers, the weaving and the carving. It was a bit pricey but it was worth every cent truly.

Stopped to see the geyser. They have guided tours and several other attractions but the geyser was what I came to see. It was supposed to erupt every hour but when I got to it, it was spewing already and kept going for probably 40 minutes. I'm not sure if that was 'the' eruption or if I missed it. It's... More

Kia ora, Sorry to say but it sounds like you missed the geyser's eruption. It usually Erupts within the hour every hour with a starting height of up to 30m(100ft) which lasts for roughly 5 minutes once the initial eruption is completed Pohutu slowly but gradually dies down over the next 40 minutes, taking approximately 20-30 minutes to reload and... A very interesting and slightly smelly :-) attraction. Lots of informative boards and well maintained walkways. Not too vast with very impressive boiling mud, steam vents and geysers. The cafe is well stocked and nicely heated for the chilly winter days. Worth a visit.

This was my first experience of geo-thermal activity. A short walk first took us to a site where hot steam was escaping from the spouts in the ground. In a little while a geyser starting throwing up hot water which went up almost 30 meters. I was rapt. Then the guide showed us around mud pools and a kiwi enclosure.... More

The guided tour was very informative, as was the Maori performance, and Te Puia houses the largest geyser in the Southern Hemisphere which is very cool. They have a kiwi house on site, although they're very difficult to see.
