Went on a cruise on board the Pure Cruises catamaran in Lake Rotoiti and it was a lovely afternoon. The lake was beautifully peaceful and at one corner is a hidden gem - the Manupirua hot springs, accessible only by boat. Lake Rotoiti also feeds the Kaituna River, which offers an amazing white water rafting experience.

Local friends took us to this reserve near Rotorua off Lake Rotoiti. From the carpark it is a short walk to Okere Falls, said to be the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world with an 11 metre white watered plunge into a deep pool below. We passed the ruins of Rotorua's first hydro-electric power station, down Hinemoa's Steps which were carved into a rock face in 1907 which led to Tutea Caves which were used by the Maoris to hide during times of war. From a viewing platform near here you can watch rafters descend the waterfall. Nearby the Trout Pool is a popular fishing spot. Worth seeing.

We stayed around the back of the lake at a quiet spot where the shores of a quiet bay was lapped by clear warm lake water and the beautiful native bush-clad hills dive steeply into the water, creating perfect shelter from the wind. The views of and from the lake were breathtaking and other than the various water sports, there were also some great walks to do around the lake. Can't wait to get back!

My friends and I paddle-board Lake Rotoiti with Denise of Rotorua Paddle Tours and the lakeview was amazing. So serene and we get to see the black swans, ducks, birds up close in their natural habitat

A group of mineral hot pools of varying temperatures sited on the shores of Lake Rotoiti in Manupirua Bay, but accessible only by boat. Amazing location. Swim in the lake itself, jumping off the jetty or sliding down the slide into the lake, swim to the nearby raft then to shore and into one or other of the hot pools. Bliss. We visited in autumn and the lake whilst cold was still swimmable. But hey, you get cold you just jump in the hot pools. In addition to the boat hire the cost of access to the pool was NZD20 per adult or child over 12 years. Child NSD10. Worth it.

Had a beautiful walk along this ancient track dating from 1620. A very good path through native bush accompanied by birdsong. It took a leisurely 45 mins to get to the Wishing Tree on the main SH30 starting at the Rotoiti reserve where there is parking and toilets and you can swim in the lake.

Lake rotoiti is a beautiful lake, the lake is great for trout fishing. This lake is also great for swimming although water can become green in warmer months. The water is refreshingly cold! Like most other reviewers have been suggesting, the hot pools only accessible by boat are just amazing. These pools are set on the side of the lake with great views, its very quiet and very idyllic! The pools cost 10$ per person ( totally worth it). Water comes from natural spring heated by geothermal activity and there are different pools with different temperatures. Make sure you take a plunge into the water off the slide at the end of one of the wharf too! I did this in september, needless to say it was overly refreshing diving into 11degree water but we were sure running back towards the hot pools after it! YOLO!

Lake Rotoiti is a pristine lake and a great holiday getaway just a short drive from Rotorua. We sail our Pure Cruise catamaran on the lake and enjoy all the hidden gems the lake has to offer such as hot water beach and the Rotoiti Hot Pools (only accessible by boat). But mainly we just love to relax and have fun on the water.

what a great day on what could have been a boring rainy day. Had a great experience kayaking across lake to glow worm cave then on to thermal baths and then back. 4 hours well spent would happily repeat on what is a beautiful lake with many wild fowl
