This place is unique. I've travelled a lot but never seen anything of its type anywhere else. You travel on winding roads through native bush and forest to get there and there is plenty of parking. Obviously they are giving the entrance a big make over and developing new gardens. We saw it in its early stages and it is... More

A place and pace for everyone - forget the rhodos just enjoy the experience - plenty of walks all different, some steep some flat, kids hideouts in the trees, lots of seats about, so plenty of choice - a new and very interesting sunken garden - congrats on that one - a great NZ asset all round

We were disappointed so much reconstruction going on in Pukeiti but they will be finished in the spring when the rhododendrens in bloom. We were taken round by a very knowledgable manager who has worked there many years. He was great and we enjoyed riding in The Lurch.

honestly if you have the chance to visit these gardens especially during the rhododendron festival it is a must see. these gardens are beautifully maintained and once the new visitor centre is open this will be a first class facility.

There are two entrances to the park and we arrived via the road from New Plymouth through the interior rather from the coast. This road is very slow and narrow and constantly twisting and turn. The road from the coast is shorter and much easier and preferred. No matter which way you arrive the visit is worth the trip. There... More

We visited at the time when rhododendrons were not in flower. But what a lovely place anyway. We arrived and were told that there was a bus trip leaving at any minute, which was good for us oldies as it is a very extensive garden. We were given an informative tour of the lovely tracks through the native bush, one... More

There is a short walk to an old water wheel and walks through row upon of beautiful Rhododendrons that thrive there. At the entrance there is a nice Cafe and local craft shop.... More

We had been told about these lovely rhododendron gardens before we arrived in NZ & we knew it was the wrong time of years to see rhodies & azaleas, but it was still a bit dissapointing as there are major refurbishment work going on at the moment so there is no cafe or information centre & only one block of... It is famous for its Rhondodendron, however you should visit during the blooming season to see the beauty of the flowers, usually during spring October to Desember. When we visited in January the blooming season has passed and the flowers fade and only left a little remaining. Anyway, whatever the season, this garden is magnificent in size, where you can... Loved this place to wonder about and see the wonderful work that has been done to set these gardens up.A great walk to the the summit if time allows. Awesome friendly and helpful staff with a small cafe to enjoy a great coffee and snack. Big renovations underway so would be keen to go back and see it all finished.... More
