Description:

Sail Barbary to the Maori Rock Carvings on Great Lake Taupo, New Zealand....

Sail Barbary to the Maori Rock Carvings on Great Lake Taupo, New Zealand. Sail Barbary is an all-year-round top rated Taupo activity; offering relaxation, fun and adventure on the water the Kiwi way.

Taupo's Maori Rock Carvings are possibly the largest of their type in the world and are a must-see attraction, only accessible by boat. Resembling the remains of ancient Maori civilization, they were created in the late 70s by a group of artists led by artist John Randall and reach a height of over 10 meters! Barbary has been offering sailing cruises to these carvings for over 30 years.

Soak up the sun or roll up your sleeves; you can take the wheel, help hoist the sails or just sit back and enjoy the view. You’re guaranteed amazing photo opportunities as you experience one of life’s postcard moments. You can even BYO (Bring Your Own) food and beverages. Things really couldn’t get more Kiwi!

As New Zealand’s only commercially operated electric yacht - We're equipped for all conditions; if the wind dies down, Barbary's eco-friendly electric engine kicks in, moving her noiselessly through the water. When the wind is up, you can enjoy sailing without salty sea-spray and noisy outboard motors. Warm ponchos are supplied.

Sail Barbary cruises to the Maori Rock Carvings depart daily at 10.30am, 2.00pm, and 5.00pm (*5.00pm Summer Only).

As New Zealand’s only floating cinema – a Movie Cruise Charter makes for a fantastic and unique night out. Enjoy the sunset, then sit back on a comfy bean bag and enjoy a blockbuster movie on the sails under the summer’s starry night sky. Warm ponchos are supplied (or simply cuddle up to someone special!).

We don’t promise the best cruise on the lake, we deliver it!

This was a fabulous way to end the hot sunny day! Sailed from 5pm until just past 730. Jaimie the owner was super friendly and knowledgable on all the various questions asked. I would highly recommend it to others!

We took the afternoon sail to the rock carvings and were with James and 8 other passengers. It was a lovely afternnon and the wind picked up enough on the way back for a good sail. I liked the fact that oassenger numbers were limited so that there was plenty of space and the opportunity for everyone to get involved... More

We did the boat trip when the weather wasn't looking very good, but apparently the weather on the lake is totally different to the shore. This was proved correct as the weather was beautiful once we left the shore. Amazing day out with Jamie, carvibgs were great and the sail back was awesome. Brilliant value for money. Thanks again!

It doesn't matter if you are a tourist or a local, this is something you have to experience at least once. The trip to the rock carvings is already worth the price and the guides made it feel more like a trip you do with mates than your standard tourist trips! Plus there is beer and pizza... what else can... More

I had a great time! It was a lovely cruise out getting to see Taupo from on the lake. Skipper Sandra told us a lot about the history of the surrounding area as well as just making everyone feel comfortable. The carvings were all located in the one spot! Got some great photos. Definitely happy I went!

The staff were entertaining and informative, although we didn't get to do much sailing, it was great a way to feel what its like on a sail boat. Perfect way to spend the morning, and MAKES FOR THE BEST PHOTOS!!! I would recommend this only for adults or older teens, as the sail can be time consuming. We had a... More

I loved my sail ⛵️A bit of an overcast day in Taupo, meant good sailing weather. I really enjoyed this affordable and intimate trip. Informative, relaxed and full of participation (if willing). Pizza, wine, great view of the carvings, small group and good sail! Book this adventure and you'll not regret!

What a great morning sailing Lake Taupo. Maori rocks very interesting. With the wind in our sails it was fantastic and such a nice comfortable boat. Our skipper made the trip. A must do in Taupo.
