- AllanJGJWellington, New Zealand4,210 contributionsAlways amazingAlways worth checking out the Falls whenever you're in Taupo. It never ceases to amaze how much water floods through and always nice to see the happy tourists. There's a number of relatively short walking tracks around the area.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 28, 2023
- Richard HDublin, Ireland287 contributionsBest way to visit the fallsThere's a great walk along the river from the thermal swimming area. The track is 1h each way with hills. Shown as an easy walk and met children running along it! However, I have a few miles on the clock and the hills were enough to take my puff away. Great views and bird song (mostly Tui). More rewarding than driving to car park. Did not swim in thermal pool but it was very busy and there's a refreshment kiosk beside it (was closed by 4.30 pm).Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten March 19, 2024
- AndyAquilaLyme Regis, United Kingdom651 contributionsQuite impressive waterfallThe short walk from the tiny car park to the falls was well worth it. The falls are very impressive, with plenty of water gushing down the relatively narrow passage. We saw boats coming up to the bottom of the falls, and that must be even more impressive.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 26, 2024
- HahnTravelsLiverpool, Australia1,290 contributionsBeautifulWell worth a visit and all free, Tracks are interesting each way and of varying lengths but the falls themselves and rapids just below that are really worth the trip. Gets crowded, parking area can get full as well but many move on pretty quickly. Feel the power of the river - beautiful!Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 30, 2024

,across the bridge above the fast flowing water and went straight to the map of the areas. Not knowing anything about Huka Falls I looked for where they were, expecting a waterfall. Sign said Huka Falls here on trail to the right. We followed it for half an hour only to find to our dismay that Huka Falls was where we started. Fast flowing Water . Yes it had a small fall but I would hardley call it a great waterfall. At the cafe at the end of our exhausting walk I mentioned the signage to a lady at the cafe and she said look at the sign just a few yards away from us and it says Huka Falls there also. I also drove to Taupo afterwards and as we entered the outskirts of Taup there was a sign saying Huka Falls lookout. How could that be with The Falls about 15 kilometres away. Turns out the whole area , how many square kilometres I dont know, is all Huka Falls. It was nice to see but I was very dissapointed. Two or three metres is not a great waterfall in my view. Department of Conservation The signage definitely needs sorting out

Car parking close to falls, great for disable tourist.
Stunning to see that rush of water, so powerful.
We walked to viewing point that is on same side of car park, there was a sign ,1 kilometres to cafe, that was actually misleading as it was more like two and it lead to the cafe where helicopter was based.
When we got back to car park at 4 pm, the cafe/shop was closed, and lady attendant actually closed the toilet shutters in front of our faces. To me the toilets should remain open until gates shut at 6 pm.

Huka Falls is one of the must see place in Taupo. You could easily see the power and the beauty of the natural. We did the trail and bridge, the view from both sides is wonderful. I would highly recommend the bridge side, since the trail (15 mins long) could be a bit challenging for some people! Anyway, a must see place for everyone!

We decided to walk to the falls from our motel which was situated 2k the other side of town. We then walked from town along the river passed the Bungy station, through Spa Thermal Park and follwed the track to the Falls. I would say it was a fairly gentle walk i.e. no really steep tracks and very picturesque. The Falls themselves display raw power and the sound of the water passing by is amazing.

We stopped here on our trip between Rotorua and Taupo. It was worth a look. The falls aren't high but that amount of water funneling through a narrow gorge is quite interesting. Apparently about one cubic metre per second. The water is crystal clear. There is a bridge across the gorge for viewing and other vantage points. There are walking and cycling trails along the river to Taupo as well.

This is an amazing experience. Back and forth from Huka Falls to Public hot pools 5.46 km distance. It was relay good walk anybody do it. Easily anyone do it under 20 to 45 minutes depend on your fitness level. Not a hard track. At the end you can have a free hot bath from the pool as well.

Walked from Reid's Farm reserve to Huka Falls which took approximately 30 minutes. The falls are beautiful and have such power with deep blue water it's really impressive. Tough place to get a good photo but apart from that it was excellent and free. Would recommend.

Huka falls is not a true waterfall - it is a cut in the landscape by the power of water and centuries.
To stand here and feel the energy and hear the sound is an incredible experience.
picture (also selfies my asian friends) will not tell anything.

These are right off the main road and a nice little track to take you to the falls. I must admit, they are not only impressive with the amount of water, but the clarity and "blueness" was truly exceptional. If in the area, its worth a quick visit at a minimum

Huka Falls is a must to visit when in Taupo. The water is beautiful colour and really gushes and swirls out down the falls. You can take the walks and depending on fitness walk for as long as you wish. Never disappoints.

Can your hire bikes and ride the tracks to Huka falls?
Written March 17, 2019
Yes it is possible to ride all the way - there is one small section of steps ( when riding from track starting on Spa Rd) but easy to dismount and carry

What type of transport is available from Ariatia back to Huka Falls, and what can I expect to pay for the return trip?
Written June 24, 2018
The intercity bus stop is in the centre of Taupo town. An easy 5 minute walk to the information centre known as the i-site. From there you can get a ride on the Taupo Hot Bus to Huka Falls and other attractions in the area. Huka Falls is 5 minutes drive north of Taupo. Cost on the Hot Bus to Huka Falls return is $15.00. It is $5.00 for each extra attraction you add on.

May I know the entrance fee for the Huka Falls? Saw some reviewer mentioned its free. Thanks
Written May 3, 2018
Free up to now. Wise to keep up to date on net just in case.

Amazing Falls here. Easy walk up and down the length of the rapids. Sometimes you can also see speed boats full of visitors come almost up to the spray off the falls.
The Hub Cafe, sadly, has closed near here. Seems the landlord raised the rents too high for them to stay open.

Hi guys, Im visiting NZ sometime end of May 2015, may I know the best way how can I get to Huka Falls from Auckland? Does the Intercity Bus "Huka Falls Jet" tour include the jet activity? Are there better and cheaper alternatives cos I really wanna do the Jet Ride. =D

8am-6pm. I remember closing time as we were just very lucky to come not long before the gates are closed. Opening time- I guessed it- common sense I guess.
