Wellington Museum is housed in the Bond Store, an 1892 heritage building designed by leading architect Frederick de Jersey Clere. Set over four floors, the exhibitions tell the myriad stories of our city and region. Wellington Museum's newest permanent exhibition, The Attic, opened in late 2015. Set in the newly open to the public fourth floor, The Attic features some of the curious and quirky tales from our past. From lions to artwork, steam engines to UFO sighting flies, Vampires and a time machine (Nga Hau), the Museum shares our fascinating stories.

I took a group of overseas people in to the museum just after Christmas, and they were interested, but I felt it was more significant to me, a local, as it had a neat timeline of special events from each year, even fairly recent years....More

Very, very interesting museum. We had expected to spend 20 minutes, we were there for three hours! Clever and varied exhibitions that make the most of the historical setting

The Wellington museum definitely is worth a visit. Go there and be back in early times. Absolutely fantastic exhibitions over the past centuries. Don't miss it!

We went there for a visit and we were absolutely amazed. As many of New Zealands museums, there is no entry to pay. So we strolled around, learned a lot about the history (the holographic show is amazing), we spent some time in the attic...More

Oh my goodness what a treasure! Fantastic day out... full of things to see and do and plenty of interaction for little ones. Excellent facilities, easy parking and access for strollers. Only meant to stay and hour and ended up there all afternoon. Only left...More

This is very much a local history museum and surprisingly good. It doesn't get as many visitors as its better known neighbor Te Papa, but it's worth seeing, both for adults and kids. There are 3 floors and you should really start at the top....More

Really gives you a feel for the growth of Wellington from early colonial beginnings to a modern capital city

An entertaining and intersting place to visit. There are plenty of staged sets recreating periods and then some really intersting quirky stuff on the upper flooors. As per a lot of Wellington's attractions this is free to get in, but well worth a look anyway.

Brilliant local history museum. Interesting exhibits, entertaining layout. I could have stayed for another hour, but the parking meter was calling. Plan 2-3 hours if you can. Perfect way to spend a wet Welly afternoon.
