I was in Wellington to take care of a family matter, which the unhelpful idiots at the U.S. Consulate in Auckland had made sound incredibly complicated and time-consuming. Not too surprisingly, it wasn't (I took care of it less than two hours), so I found...More

Good museum. Good information on Maori culture. Cons: too many war references. Seemed to glorify war especially WWI Also the Maori exhibit didn’t provide a lot of context. I can only assume that it’s designed for folks that have some understanding of the culture. I...More

We spent a couple of hours here and wished we could have stayed longer as we only had time to scratch the surface of everything this excellent museum has to offer. It really is worth a visit.

The building is astonishing and is home to many different exhibitions about New Zealand's origins, culture and how that developed in this multicultural country. You get to understand how everything is interconnected in this nation and how much the New Zealanders cherish their roots.

We spent a couple of hours here exploring the exhibitions and found it interesting and informative. Highly recommended for first-time visitors to NZ.

I like the way Te Papa is divided into areas that deliver top quality museum experiences and help to break up the often monumental and daunting aspect so many museums have. And do go and see the Scale of War WW1 exhibition. It's immensely moving.
