I went there taking the cable car, which was a nice idea to start at the top of the gardens going down. There was some very interesting plant species around and the gardens were extensive and well catered-for. Possibly because of the summer season, the garden was mostly green with very few other colors, except for the rose garden at... More

I like to spend lots of time in the Botanic Gardens. Wonder, run, relax, drink coffee, picnic.. It is a beautiful place with many winding trails, singing birds, bees and colourful fragrant flowers.

This was one of the highlights in our trip to Wellington! The gardens are beautifully laid out over several rolling hills. While there is no one single spot to "take it all in", there were many pockets of specialized gardens. For example, there was an Australian Garden, a succulent garden, etc. Take your time to wander around, especially explore the... More

Take the Cable Car from Lambton Quay to ensure most of your walk through the gardens is downhill. The sculpture trail provides additional interest as you make your way down to the Rose Garden and Begonia House where a Café awaits. Divert to the Soundshell for an evening concert during the Summer Festival or make your way through the Boulcott... More

My family and I have visited these gardens over many years and I highly recommend it whether you are a resident, short stay visitor or just passing through - you can spend as much or as little time there as you like. My favourite plan is to take the cable car up from Lambton Quay. There are some great city/harbour... More

Catch the cable car up ($4) and spend about 30 minutes walking down through the gardens. We could have spent longer there as there are lots of different areas to go to. Very pretty and relaxing.
