We went up the Cable Car and down to the city, the route was very well signposted but was very steep in places, we were there in April so there was nothing of interest really, but it was a lovely day for walking and we enjoyed it

The best way to visit is to take the cablecar up and walk down. There are various gardens with special themes and a nice rosery halfway, where you can get food and drinks.

We took the city tram to the gardens. It had so many varieties of flowers. My wife is a photographer and couldn't get enough! The plants inside the huge greenhouse were especially gorgeous. It wasn't crowded and if you're a flower person, this is a site not to miss.

The Botanic Gardens offer a wide choice of walks and peaceful spots to sit. From the Rose gardens to the tracks leading up the hill through lovely bush and back down the hill past the children's playground and via the duck pond and tulip gardens. There are many paths to choose from and it would seem that the city centre... More

We took the cable car, and then we went for a walk in the botanical gardens. The gardens are beautiful and tranquil. There was a lovely playground for the kids, where they spent a fair while using all the equipment. It is also a good area to have a picnic.

If you don't have long take the cable car up from Lambton Quay and enjoy the wonderful views. If you have the time follow the flowers back down to the city, and if you have even longer just meander on any path that takes your fancy. Wonderful relaxing place, and even has a great playground for children. If it is... More

We took the cable car to the top of the hill and walked back downhill through these beautiful gardens! The displays on the way down the main path were well planned and absolutely lovely. There were many interesting side gardens that could also be visited on the way down. Then at the bottom a lovely Rose Garden with every color... More

This garden has absolutely everything. Sweeping panoramas and cozy hidden corners. Historical sites and art surround you at all turns, and the diversity of the flora is unendingly entertaining. I was in Wellington for just three days, but this is a standout that should be on any 1-2 day checklist. Take the Cable Car up to the top to get... More
