Take a walk - Every day at 10.00am, Walk Wellington gives you an excellent introduction into this exuberant, walkable city and its people. Our guides have a deep knowledge and love of Wellington and enjoy helping to make your visit an absolutely positively fantastic experience. Walks take about two hours. We walk every day except Christmas Day and Good Friday, rain or shine, so it's best to dress to suit the weather. During the summer (December through March) take advantage of Wellington's long days with an evening walk on Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 5.30pm. Walk Wellington tours leave from the temporary i-SITE Visitor Centre 111 Wakefield St at Cuba St, adjacent to Civic Square. Look for the guide in the bright, green vest! Our stand is just inside the doors on the left.

We booked this tour through Holland America although you can book directly through their web site. Our tour guide was John M and he was very knowledgeable regarding Wellington's history and architecture. The tour lasted about two hours and we visited various areas of the city including a short stop at the botanic gardens. The walking is at a leisurely... More

We have been to Wellington before but still found this two hour plus walking tour worthwhile. It was a bit difficult to find where the tour actually started on Civic Square. It seems there was a sign but it went with last year's earthquake. Perhaps the city council could install another one. It was a nice day and John kept... More

I booked this after reading good reviews on Cruise Critic from past cruise passengers and pre booked for NZ$20. Turned ups on a reading day to find I was the only taker, so it was a private tour.... Guide was informative, knowledgable and friendly. The tour takes 2 hours on a flat route that starts at the tourist information centre... More

We booked before we went on our cruise and were advised to meet at 9.30 at isite. We paid there. We overestimated how long it would take to walk there and so we were there just after 9 nit quite enough time to walk up and down Cuba St so we had coffee across the road and it ended up... More

We have had very good experience with "free" walking tours in other cities, but there isn't one in Wellington. This tour is booked out of the iSite visitor information center, at NZ$20 each. The tour guide was informative, but he got way too detailed about "this building used to be this, and now is that" and "that building used to... More

Our time was limited and we have had good luck with walking tours in other places and we were not disappointed this time either. Our guide was soft spoken and took time with each stop to be sure details were explained and questions answered. He covered folklore, history, art and a little bit of tongue in cheek politics.

We were walking e were on the first tour starting at the railway station to give close acceses from cruise ships. Our guide did a terrific job and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. This tour made Wellington one of our best stops on the trip.

We often begin a city visit with a tour like this to orientate ourselves and to get an introduction to the highlights. The success generally depends on the skills of the guide and the size of the group Sadly, and despite there being only 6 in the group, our guide Erina was unable to make herself heard above the city's...
