This is one of the best museums we've seen - world wide. Maori history was beautifully and professionally covered, Antarctic exploration detailed in full, earthquake devastation covered (in a different venue) and so much more.

Really good old school exhibits! It's really easy to spend hours here so many interesting things, Fred and Myrtle's Pawa house was hands down the best thing for me.

If you have plenty of time to kill them the Canterbury museum is a great place to visit. Their is plenty of hands on activities for kids and does take some time to wander through the museum.

Budget at least a couple of hours for this - the indigenous, Antarctic and bird sections are excellent and well worth spending time on. In fact you may be surprised at ow long it takes to do this museum justice. Overall very interesting. Recommended.

There was a good mix of exhibits to suit different ages and interests (historical, natural, cultural). The bird exhibit was quite impressive. Loved the Paua Shell House and the short film of Fred & Myrtle's house.

Hi there, I'd say at least 2-3 hours. Although I love history, I prefer to do museums in chunks otherwise, everything starts blending together. Maybe spend a little time there, then do one of the open bus tours which begin... More
