What a great idea. A temporary solution is now a sightseeing attraction. The ReStart Mall was a great little place to shop and have a quick lunch, hope it expands further as once inside the shops you can't tell they are containers. Enjoyable and lots of different take away food vans.

Shopping in a container is something unique to Christchurch ,I think even if they rebuild this containers should still stay

Once the rebuilding works are completed I am sure this area will be great for shopping and entertainment.

The shopping mall was built a year after the earthquake. Everyone were please to have their centre city mall back. A tidy place and crowded in the weekend. Have everything. Good fun.

Despite the devastation to buildings in the centre of Christchurch caused by the earthquake in 2011 enterprising locals have recreated the shopping precinct in the centre of town using shipping containers. Good range of shops and plenty of places to eat & drink. Another must see in Christchurch.

Exploring Cashel Street is inspiring. Christchurch is still recovering from the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes with demolition, planning, development and building works ongoing. To get business up and running, Christchurch re-start has been established with shipping containers as the basis for attractive and functional shopping and service venues. Go along and be inspired. While there, go to the Quake Centre... More

Food, shopping, music and then chilllll..... This is a perfect place to grab a bite to eat for lunch and hang with the city. Reconstruction abounds from the Avon River thru the many blocks of redevelopment. Come check it out. You will be amazed as what folks can do with a freight box.

By enlarge we found not much of interest in the containers to purchase but we enjoyed listening to the music provided by the buskers and having lunch in the sunshine, watch people go by

Visual proof of the city coming together in tough times. Some awesome little shops all made from shipping containers. Includes some big nationwide chains too!
