This is E. Hayes ans sons Hardware store also known as Hammer Hardware. It is where the famous Indian motorbike is kept. The display of old bikes and things from the past is well and truly worth seeing. The movie " The Fastest Indian" starred Anthony Hopkins.

If your into tools, motorbikes, machinery, and camping this is an absolute must see and the best part is there is a large home ware dept that will keep the wife occupied. This a hardware store like no other with a mix of both old and new plus the Bert Munroe collection. Only thing missing is a bar!

Wow.... excellent attraction in E Hayes and Sons hardware store in the heart of Invercargill. Was passing through Invercargill and the girl serving us breakfast mentioned this place and where we could see Burt Munro's original bike. We were pleasantly surprised to see the huge displays of old motorbikes and vehicles as we wandered Around the store... and all Free... More

We had read about Hayes and came across it by accident. Such a fabulous idea a hardware shop still in the same family displaying the cars motorbikes and other interesting things in a working shop. The staff member we spoke to was so knowledgeable of the history and family connections. Also knew a lot about the film. As the beach... More

For some a trip to the hardware store means a weekend stuck fixing up the home,, but if ye are in Invercargill its worth it. This place not only has Burt Munro's 1920 indian chief ,, but an amazing collection of cars and bikes and a dedicated wall with offerings to the God Of Speed .... you would be crazy... More

A pleasant environment to reflect on the challenges of the Fastest Indian which still holds a world record.

I was excited to see Burt Munro's Indian and other effects, but I was surprised at the extent of the motorcycle collection and the other historical items of all types, from engineering interests to NZ hardware and frontier items. Very friendly staff as well!

This is a remarkable collection of memorabilia celebrating the life of Bert Munro. Also contains other vintage motor bikes and cars. Was better than I expected.

As other reviewers have said, this is a huge, working hardware store, plus outdoors section, camping, clothing, homewares, gifts and more, intersperced with the historical displays. Clean and well lit, with attentive, knowledagble staff, who are equally happy to just let you wander around. Much nicer than a Bunnings and way more interesting. And free.
