Milford Sound Experience Full Day from Queenstown

672 reviews
Cruising Milford Sound is among New Zealand’s most spectacular activities, but the mountain scenery that lines the coast is just as gorgeous. Experience both on this full-day trip from Queenstown, traveling through the heart of Fiordland National Park, and then cruising all the way to the edge of the Tasman Sea. An included Kiwi-style barbecue lunch completes the excursion, which includes plenty of sightseeing stops throughout the day.

The location of the show is amazing, it's at the top of Queenstown with amazing view of whole town, nearby mountains - just breathtaking. Show was authentic and great, they made males and females participate in turns (which we hated, obviously), but still it was great. It would be a crime to be in NZ and not go to a Haka show. Definitely recommend

With all the adventure and adrenalin activities to do in Queenstown you could be forgiven for putting this experience on the "nice to do" rather than the "must do" list but you would be robbing yourself of this incredible experience. Right from the start the audience is an integral part of the show, as my husband found out being the volunteer (chief) for the group. We were led downstairs into a very modern yet intimate amphitheatre decorated in traditional Maori scenes and props. Once we were all seated and the show started we went into another world of incredible song, culture and history. The warrior protecting his ground from the approaching stranger (my husband the volunteer) was chilling to watch as his intensity and commitment to the war dance (apologies if that is not the right terminology) got everyone uneasy. After this ceremony had completed the mood changed as the warrior traded his spear for a guitar and led the group in traditional song and dance. The performers are incredibly passionate and sensitive to presenting their culture, history and traditions to all visitors in a way that leaves you feeling that richer for having been a part of the show and listening to their stories. The highlights for us included the ladies getting up on stage to try (and fail) a traditional ball dance which was so much fun. We bought this experience with the buffet dinner on the end and the adjacent restaurant which was also incredible. Would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Queenstown who has ever had an interest in the Maori culture. Incredible and unforgettable.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable show, with warm, welcoming, and very talented performers! As you might expect, yes, the performers do encourage people to go onstage, but it's done with minimal stress for the 'volunteers' and with significant warmth and patience from the professionals.

This was part of the add on I purchased for the gondola ticket. The small theatre was only half full for the performance on this occasion. Some of these types of activities can be very cheesy and yes there was element of that in this including the obligatory audience participation including for kids who thoroughly enjoyed it. Trying to do a haka with my sprained ankle was probably not best recommended. Despite this the costumes, performances, songs and harmonisation was really excellent, and reminded me of some of the great music shows I have previously seen in the south Pacific Islands. Somewhat disappointingly no photographs were allowed. I guess in this day and age it would end up live on instagram which they are clearly trying to avoid. A worthwhile half and hour.
