Beautiful film

We saw the feature film about the sounds and stunning photography. Too bad there was not an informative commentary in addition.

Thanks for your review TLAOrangeville, we're glad you enjoyed the film and thanks for your critique. When "Ata Whenua" was made 10 years ago the producer and director wanted to make the film a scenic experience of the area rather than a documentary. To help answer any questions and provide some more specific information, we developed a leaflet that we... More

Ata Whenua - Shadowland. A great film and music to show you a bit of Fiordland National Park from the air.

A 30-minute video showing off the stunning beauty of Fiordland is played in a purpose-built cinema which would be the envy of most London suburbs. There is no dialogue - this is an arty display of the changing faces of Fiordland put together by a man who knows and loves it. There's a great bar next to the cinema, and... More

I watched "Shadowlands" at the cinema. It was short, but that was not my issue with it. i would have much preferred it to be all nature, i did not see much of the wildlife in the park. I dont really care to see human climbers, helicopters, and boats--show me nature, that is what this park is all about.

Hi ALtraveler64, Thank you for your review. We'd like to just note that "Ata Whenua - Shadowland" was intended to be a scenic experience of the National Park rather than a direct nature documentary, hence the specially written soundtrack rather than a commentary. The film makers wanted to show a variety of Fiordland inhabitants, from birds like Kea and Takahe,... More

What a cool experience! The Ata Whenua movie offers such a wonderful experience of being flown around Fiordland with really lovely music. I am so pleased that I went. The seats are generously proportioned and very comfortable, and while I could have chosen a beer or wine from a well put-together list, I am pleased I had a coffee which... More

Although you have to pay NZ$10 pp, the whole film and construction of the cinema was done solely to show the beauty of NZ. Well worth the 30 mins. to see some scenes that not everyone can see unless you live in NZ or visit NZ every month to view the changing scenery

We saw the Fiordland 30 minute film which is a wordless tour of the fiordlands shot from the air. The accompanying music is very good and the cinamatography is amazing. This film is advertised throughout the town and many shops will hand you a discount voucher. If you don't have a discount voucher, go anyway. This is a worthwhile experience.... More

Thought it was going to be a great overview of all the sights of Fiordland. While it was a well done film it was a bit artsy for me. Also there no narration so you don't know where you are at any point. On the positive you get to see it in all seasons and see some parts you would... More

There was a film showing which was shot from a helicopter over Fiordland. The footage was amazing and very emotive, well worth watching to get a feel for the amazing scenery in the area.
