Old Dubbo Gaol is a state heritage listed must see. This remarkably complete and intact gaol operated for 119 years from 1847 to 1966 and is still nestled in the main street of Dubbo. This set of 19th and 20th century gaol buildings create a pocket in time, and the experiences within brings history to life. This regional gaol is representative of powerful, surprising and dark moments in Australian prison history. We house important collections such as the hangman's kit and gallows, and unforgettable experiences such as the dark cells and the bird's-eye view from the watchtower. With guided tours, night tours, and theatrical experiences on offer, the Old Dubbo Gaol is a rare piece of history open to explore.

We visited the old dubbo gaol today and was really impressed with the restoration and all the displays. The stories were interesting and being in the middle of the Main Street easy to access. Climbing up the watch tower and being in the solitary cells were spooky. Staff were friendly. Price was reasonable for couple of hours we spent there.

I knew this was an old goal, but a warning that some parts could be scary would have been helpful as I had a panic attack.

Visited here with my family. Was full of lots of information and displays. I felt a sense of sadness personally for the history it contains. Worthwhile seeing at least once. Probably not of high interest for smaller children. Quite a bit of graphic information which may not be suitable for younger persons. Would recommend for adults. May baulk a little... More

Not overly large but informative. The ghost tour did look good. The gallows was the best attraction, along with visual displays. Worth having a look

Had a picnic in the park near the kiosk where tables and chairs are available The kids had plenty of room to run around and play in all we had a wonderful time. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the animal enclosures and the staffs kindness and gentleness with them.

Worth a visit if you're interested in history. Included numerous informative signs about the history and prisoners kept at the gaol. I think this would be fun for school-age children. You can climb up to the guard tower and view many rooms in the gaol, including the hospital and solitary confinement cells. There is a short holographic film about executions... More
