I visited this museum while on a cruise. I got there by taking the Newcastle shuttle (bus 110) which is free. This museum is also free. It contains lots of exhibits on Newcastle's history. I especially enjoyed the BHP display of steel making. There is...More

Not being from Australia, we knew very little of Newcastle other than it was famous as an industrial port. We were aware of this relatively recently opened museum in the former engine sheds. The exhibition gave us a thorough grounding concerning the industrial history of...More

Great afternoon of exploring and learning, and having a lot of fun! We paid to see the dinosaur exhibit, which is well worth it, but would have had a great time even if we had only made a donation to see the usual displays and...More

Well worth visiting as it gives a glimpse into all that has made Newcastle - convicts, aboriginals, early settlers, musicians etc. All feature in the many displays on show. Paid parking is available nearby & a small cafe is on site

Great place to take children as most activities are free. I took my grandchildren who are both under 3 and they had a ball.

The perfect place to be when it is 40C - most of it is air conditioned. Some interesting items - a must do as it only costs a donation - so please be generous to keep the local museum funded.

Kids four and under, great wet weather option. Also good dry option if it is hot and you are after some air conditioning .
