My boyfriend and I walked the Yuelarbah track. It is a relatively easy walk although lots of uphill steps on the way back!

There were boardwalks, lookouts, bridges, picnic spots and lookouts, and we saw creeks, waterfalls, the lagoon and the beach on this one walk!

Also spotted a big goanna and blue tongue lizard! Lots of different bird species too though I couldn't tell you what they were!

Best to do this before it gets too hot during the day. A very popular walk for bush walkers or if you want to head to the beach for a swim. There is pram and wheelchair access for just the beginning of the walk. Further into the walk you will descend steps and step over some tree roots. Make sure you take water with you and go to the toilet before you get there, as there are no toilets.

I lived in Newcastle for many years before I knew about the beautiful walking trails here. It is a wonderful mix of beautiful bush, waterfalls and beach views. You can go down on to the beach if you want but no lifesaver club or facilities here. In the summer months make sure you take mosquito repellent and always carry a bottle of water as there is none on the trails. It is a lovely place to be on hotter days because the bush is cool and shady. Great for families.

Think Gilligan's Island, nice little lagoon, strange birds and plants, a human sundial... chained up right now (strange for midsummer), so park the car and walk in-the camp ranger is friendly!

Good hiking and walking area, but watch on for mountain bikes. Has good tracks and views. Take water and good shoes

Very nice trail to lagoon BUT I wanted to do the loop back via Burwood and Leggy point and couldnt find the start of these last 2.

I ended up going back via the scout camp which is discouraged by lots of signs, but if the return track was signposted, there'd be no one traipsing through the camp.

Even on a return drive I couldnt find the exit of Leggy point or Burwood.

Next time,Ill try the track leading back to the beach after you cross the lagoon,i think this might go to the lookout, but does seem to make for quite a hike.

Also I didnt see any of the historical sights that were supposed to be near the Burwood track.

Remember to avoid the bike trails and it would be nice if bikers could tell us walkers what their signs mean.

Lots of trails to explore, varying degrees of difficulty. Be mindful that some are shared with MTB. The walk to the lagoon and beach is relatively easy and well sign posted. -Be sure to take mozzie repellant in the warmer months and carry a water bottle. No public toilets close.

Tried a different route to the lagoon this time away from the bike trails. Went to the southern side and explored one of the walking trails 'Leggy Loop' which is up from where the Scouts are. It's not well sign posted, but if you check the map prior, you can work out where to go. There's a great lookout over the cliffs and then the walk takes you down to the beach near the lagoon via an awesome grass clearing. Beautiful locations.

Arrived early and grabbed a great parking spot in the car park. Really lovely walk through the bush to a look out where you could see the lagoon and the beach. From the lookout make sure you take the track that goes down and not the one that looks more like a driving track (we made this mistake and had to turn around). Take mosquito spray and sunscreen! Lots of mosquitos. The walk is beautiful apart from the rubbish (coffee cups, empty drink bottles etc). I was a bit disappointed with the Lagoon as there was a sign that read no swimming and the water looked very polluted and smelt like sewer. We swam in the ocean instead although it was very rough on the day we were there. The walk back up wasn't as strenuous as I thought it would be - uphill and lots of stairs. Not ideal for toddlers. We had our 9 month old in a carrier. Don't forget to take water!

We have lived for several years only 1.5 hrs from this spectacular location without realising it exists.

There are several walks and bike trails available . We took the Yuelarbah trail for about 1/2 -3/4 hr each way and were really impressed.

To access it: From Newcastle, Charlestown and Sydney, exit the Pacific Highway at Dudley Road or Kahibah Road, then turn into Burwood Road and park at the car park.

There is a wheel chair accessible ramp to start with but only for the start of the trail, as further on there are several steps. The walk is shaded for much of the way.

Be sure to take mozzie repellent as there are plenty of mozzies a few hundred metres into the walk

The view from Leichhardt’s lookout out over the bush to Glenrock Lagoon and the ocean is very impressive.

From there you need to be alert to be able to locate the start of the track down to the Lagoon as its not signposted. It starts to the left of the lookout....

The surf was up the day we were there, so while good for local surfies, it wasn't safe for swimming

In summer the lake is warm and the view from the lake and beach is spectacular.

Enjoy!
