The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

As one of the National Heritage sites the Port Authority has set it up to be an excellent venue to research the history of the area. A well presented display gives background and you have the choice of a Port After Dark tour (with lanterns and many ghost stories) and an historical tour based on the various uses of the... More

Years ago before 1900 this whole area provided the riverboats a place to unload wool, timber, vegetables and a lot more employment. It now is home to one of the oldest paddle steamers in the world, the PS Adelaide.

This is a great place to visit and really brings the history of the port to life. Information is easy to understand and you can really get a feel for hoe the paddleboats used the river to transport cargo to Melbourne/Sydney and places in between. Really enjoyed this place and if you are in the area its well worth the... More

Take the free guided tour first with paid entry into the port. You'll learn about about the history of Echuca and go through some 'secret' tunnels used to escape from the police. (I must have forgotten everything I learned in school) Then you can go back and take your time looking at the exhibits at a leisurely pace.

The day we went to the Old Port of Echuca was like visiting a ghost town. The main street was almost empty.. There is now a big information centre that looks out of place, situated one end of the street. You have to pay to walk the old pier and the black smith is gone, replaced by a video. The... More

Thank you for your feedback. The appearance of the Discovery Centre building has attracted mixed reviews over the years. It was purpose built to house and preserve historical artefacts, incorporating the old with the new to enable engaging and interactive displays and exhibits to enhance the visitor experience. Often we are confused with the visitor information centre which is in... More

Well worth the time to stroll through the recreated port facilities and the time to take in the information which is well presented through a series of interactive audio video stations.
