This is a fancy store. Yes, you can get some pieces from "well-known" artists. Don't think if you don't buy it here, you will miss out. I did. Greenstone is EVERYWHERE in the South. Especially if you are going to Queenstown, hold off. It is in every decent jewelry store there for reasonable prices. They also have an art fair... More

To begin, I was not that excited about the Westland Jade place because Jade doesn't stir me one way or the other. But listening to the short talk about Jade in the back of the Westland Gemstone store gave me a real appreciation for the mining and polishing the stone to the shape and color. Not that excited about Jade?... More

While this is a retail establishment that sells the usual souvenirs (hats, t-shirts and others) it is much more than that. They make and sell the traditional greenstone so revered by the Maori into a wide variety of jewelry. The workshop is available for free tours and the traditions and relationships of the Maori to the stone is explained. You... More

The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is ample street parking. The store does get a bit crowded though when a tour bus arrives.

The customer service was quite good and they sales people seemed to know what they were talking about. What I found frustrating is that they would only have one off's. It was also on the expensive side and I found the exact same pieces (the guaranteed New Zealand Jade) at the Antarctic Centre Christchurch for cheaper.

It was always a highlight going into Westland Greenstone and having a chat with Bernie and the boys and watch jade carvings and jewellery being produced. However times have changed and this shop and factory now displays a lot of cheaper general tourist items and has lost it`s uniqueness There is still some nice jade pieces displayed but not a patch... This shop should be #1. All of their jade is guaranteed locally sourced, their designs are great and their customer service is second to none. I cannot praise them highly enough.

This quirky little store ( not so little on the inside) offers you an outstanding range of giftware. The jewellery that we saw here were one-offs , which made nicer gifts. I purchased several gifts inside and I assure you the recipients of the gifts have loved them. The interesting bit to this is that out the back of the... More

This shop has a large range of greenstone and other minerals and stones jewellery. The prices seemed good. There are greenstone carvings and pendants and a range of other giftware including shirts. You can also go into the workshop to see the carvers at work which was great.
